Hello,

I am a modeller from the UK and new to this forum. I wonder if anyone can help.

I have been model flying since about 1973 when I was about 10 years old. I started on control line and eventually graduated to radio control in 1977. Since then I've made and flown just about every type of radio model, from thermal soarers to aerobatic paternships and large scale models.

When I started modelling I can remember seeing single channel models being flown at our local field and have always had a soft spot for them. I've been making vintage models for some time now, but I've had the urge to build and fly one using a real single channel unit. Is this a crazy idea? I don't know of anyone who is doing this, or has done something similar in recent years here in the UK.

What I am looking for is single channel equipment from the late 1960's or early 1970's. Something that has a transmitter with a single push button, a superhet receiver + a rubber driven escapement or motorised actuator. I have been looking on Ebay for about a month and managed to get a suitable transmitter which seems to work, but I'm willing to buy another transmitter if I have too. I could probably get by with a super-regen receiver, but in this day and age I think a superhet would be sensible.

So, does anyone have any suitable equipment that they are willing to sell and ship to the UK? Just about anything would be considered and any help gratefully received.

Many thanks,

Peter Studzinski

I started out with rudder only and had very little success until many years later when I put an Ace pulse rudder outfit into a Cox 010 powered Littlest Stik. I guess it was good luck more than good planning or maybe I was finally up to the task but that model was great fun over the years. I've still go it in one piece and it'll fly again but I think I'm going to need to put in the parkflyer gear that I've got now. First attempts to breath life back into the Ace system have met with resistance so far.

I posted another thread further down about rudder only flying a few weeks back and didn't get an overwhelming response but there IS a little bit of intrest out there.

I'm also working on a 049 powered cabin model just now that I'm going to fly rudder only. It's my own design that is sort of an amalgamation of a couple of Debolt classics. I just didn't have the patience to wait for plans to come in the mail so I did my own.

I may be trying rudder only again but I'm not crazy enough to wrestle with the old gear and it's problems. I don't need THAT much of a nostalgia challenge.... I'll be using a modern setup but with only the one servo.

After almost 30 years of modeling I think I'm ready for this.....

BMatthews, what kind of problems are you having with your Ace unit. I have schematics for these units if you need them. I currently have 2 Ace units flying now. 1 in a Minnie Mambo and 1 in a Pageboy. Both with many flights. Also I have 2 Mattel units flying. 1 in Schoolboy and 1 in Wee Stick; a throw off of the Littlest Stick I am kitting now. As for the escapement units. I am installing my Mule and escapement unit into my Lighting Bug now. Hope to start flying it as soon as the weather gets better.

Thanks Bob, I may just take you up on that. I think I've still got the data sheet for the RX and I know I've got the book for my TX.

BTW, you can see a pic of my model and gear in THIS THREAD down near the bottom of the list..

All my flying oldies are listed in my gallery. Sorry pics are a bit too light and I need to replace sometime. I am now assembling the Jr Falcon prototype for future upcoming kit. Possible a single channel but most likely newer gear for the shows.

Good luck and keep them flying!
