I love my baja but I would like to try a 4x4 buggy too. The long plush suspension on the baja is sweet and makes it handle awsome but all these rear drive large scale cars lack traction because of violent wheel spin which makes them a handfull in all but the most perfect conditions. I hate having to use throttle control, I want to pin it.

Hello All, Does anyone know how long MCD has been in the RC car business? It looks like they are out of Turkey and have been in rc cars for about 3 years. I'm wondering about the long term viability of this company compared to FG, HPI, Lauterbacher, etc. for spares and replacement parts. Does anyone think that there will be aftermarket parts for these or are parts between the various brands interchangeable(like the FG wheels that someone else mentioned)? This looks like a really fun car but it would be dissapointing not to be able to get parts to keep it running...thoughts anyone? Thanks in advance for any opinions, Mark

Hi Mark
MCD has been doing this since 1990 and it looks like they’re in it for good. Here is a quote from their site:

quote:

We are an engineering and designing company. At the start of 1990, we have focused our know-how in the automotive performance sector towards RC car design. After 3 years of planning and R&D we have created a prototype. After a long test period we have turned our company investments and energy in the preparation of a serial production environment and as a result Active 4wd was produced by MCD ; Our development and improvement efforts are going on...
Our company´s principle is to design and produce high quality products.
Our goal is to provide the customers with well designed and durable products instead of glossy and featureless designs. We are aware that there are many cheap and inefficient products on the market which require many additions just to bring them to a standard level and we think that this approach is a money-trap which falls way apart from honesty. We prefer to design products which seem to be less price-competitive due to their seemingly high price, but whose difference could be recognized by selective users.

I think they will only become more popular as time goes on.
The rest of the industry has a lot of catching up to do to compete with these guys.

I need more info. I am very interested in one of these. How well does it handle and jump compared to the other large scale cars? I've had traxxas monster buggies, FG monster beetle that I later changed to a marder and now the HPI Baja. I understand that it should always get the holeshot being 4x4 but what about the rest of the track. Does it corner better than the other cars out there or does the 4x4 make it push in the turns? Can it take the pounding of reasonable jumps? Does it fly good. My Baja like to fly nose low and it pisses me off. You have to really get it perfect to fly it correctly otherwise its endo time. Is the MCD more correctable in the air because of more rotating mass from being 4x4? How well do the gears hold up? I'm asking so many questions because I have my own track and due, in part to the explosion of large scale owners in my area, we will be running races 2 Saturdays a month starting in the spring barring any unforseen problems. I might get one in the future for racing at my place. But my track is not a mostly flat Euro style track. It's a more USA style track with some jumps. Nothing stupid high but nothing like across the pond. My biggest jump is a 45foot long table top that gets you about 6-7 foot above the ground. The Baja is the only big car that I have owned that takes this kind of jumpin over and over without much issue as far as breakage goes. I've even kicked around getting a Lauterbacher super cross even though it's not 4x4. Here is my perfect large scale deam car- Traction of this MCD, flying manners of the FG Monster beetle, nothing from the Traxxas and the durability and style of the Baja. I will surely be finding out all I can before spring.

I will be testing one out here soon and will fill you in. Our track here has 10 jumps per lap so it will be a good test bed. I will post lots of video as well.

Ah, now I know exactly who you are. largscale rc.com. Sweet! I've been showing your add in my latest mag to all the buddies that are interested in getting a big gasser. Most say they want 4x4 so I show them the add and say here you go. I will try to get down there before snow flys or in the spring.

Cool. Might bring some friends that are interested too. Oh, 1 more thing. Do you know for sure if the wheels from FG cars fit on the MCD?

While the wheels will fit, it is good to note that the tires that the MCD runs with out of the box are a bit bigger in diameter then the ones typicly found on a Marder-style FG.

As for your other questions jeepfreak1972:

-How well does it handle and jump compared to the other large scale cars?

Well! The MCD stays planted much better then a FG, and 95% as well as a Baja. The suspension seems VERY stiff compaired to a Baja when pushing down on the car, but it's amazing how much it livens up once moving.

-Does it corner better than the other cars out there or does the 4x4 make it push in the turns?

The 4wd makes it much easier to control in a turn. The car litterally goes where you point it. I have experiance very little puch with mine. In all actuality, I'd venture that under power, my MCD Racerunner turns better then my Brushless HPI Savage. As a bonus too, the amount of power on tap from a 26cc+ motor, allows to break all 4 tires free in a turn, and do rally-style "drift" turns. Hella fun!

-Can it take the pounding of reasonable jumps? Does it fly good. My Baja like to fly nose low and it pisses me off.

This all depends on what you consider a "reasonable" jump! LOL. I have not gotten alot of air time with mine yet, but the few jumps I have taken have been smooth and controlled. A decent jump and a finger on the throttle tends to yeild a nice flight path.

-Is the MCD more correctable in the air because of more rotating mass from being 4x4?

While the 4wd will offer you more attitude adjustment in the air then a 2wd vehicle, the MCD's weight still stops it from being as dramaticly "flicable" in the air as a 1/8 scale buggy/truck. It's definaetly more controllable then a Baja, however.

-How well do the gears hold up?

After a gallon of fuel in some seriously messy and dirty conditions, mine are still holding up well. There are definately some wear marks from small stones and sand getting in, but nothing that is hurting the performance as of yet. I
m guessing I'll probably end up having to swap out the gears once/year or so if I keep driving in the condistions I do.

Hope this helps!
