walleye_gfa -> Yet another tail motor question... (7/10/2006 12:00:49 AM)

Ok, I bought used CP that appears to be in good shape. Out of the box I got it to hover and SLOWLY fly around 3-4 feet off ground, figure Im hot stuff... did take a bit of rudder to keep under control but btw the gain and prop it really trimmed out nice. From the reading if I was able to keep it at waist hover in a 5-10 foot circle was doing well.

Anyway, I went to go try it this morning and it seemed to require a little more rudder, then more, then more, then I can hover alright as long as I dont mind doing left circles the whole time... (the motor seems weaker now than yesterday, bout half as strong???).

I have searched the forums for the vast number of comments on this but want confirmation form those who have had the CP for a while... so it seems that Im about to replace my first tail motor ??? If it were the 4 in 1 it would simply have failed altogether right ???

I plan on replacing and using two heat sinks (one now) and for the heck of it will use some thermal grease (like for CPU's) for better thermal bond.

Am I on the right track ??? Seems strange that last night was a little rough but as long as my brain stayed ahead of machine it was fine and this morning (over a couple battery packs) it went to all left tail spin all the time.

11.1v LIPO
Aero upgrades (main motor, gearing, heat sink on both motors)
Been flying RC for 20+ years so I read the manual and adjusted as needed...

Thanks for help !!!!!!!!!

Wally

Yep,

The classic sign of a tail motor on the way out. I have had a tail motor fail with the 11v lipo within ten packs, causing a catostrophic crash.

I bought the $18.00 dual tail mod from helidirect and two of the esky tail motors ($6.11 each).

I have flown thirty times with this mod, each flight averaged 15 minutes. The tail motors are cool to warm in temp and have shown no sign of degradation at all. It got a little tail heavy, but I just placed the battery foward and it flies great.

THanks just replaced it and works great, will certainly look into other options.
