I am looking for a charger for my 1/4 scale plane. It has 3 battery packs in it, and a Triton, etc. only charges one pack at a time, making an C/10 charge take more than one day. Alpa 4? (long back order, and does not do lithium yet)

Does anyone have a suggestions what to use to charge two 1500 6volt mah NiMH packs, a 1650 mah 4.8 volt Nicd, and a 1650 9.6 volt NiMh transmitter pack with so I can fly BOTH Saturday and Sunday? (Is this too much to ask for!!)

No one sysytem (that you could afford) does what you are asking. Your best bet IMO is a couple of Sirius chargers. Of course you could always go the low quality route and get Hobbico chargers.

Have you checked the new Hobbico MKII? It will do at least two packs simultaneously I think with adjustable charge rates. Must you charge at C/10 only?

Ultimate Charger II (be warned, it's pricey).

If you make up some leads to connect all those batteries in series then there are many chargers that will charge them all. It would be preferable if all the cells were 1650s but if you stick to low charge rates around C/10 to C/5 then it won't matter too much.

That's only a total of 22 cells. Plenty of chargers intended for electric flight will handle that cell count. If you want one that will do lithium cells too then a Schulze 330 would be a good bet.

Even the Hitec CG340 at around $50 will do 16 cells so you could charge the 2 1500 receiver batteries together followed by the 1650 Rx + Tx batteries.

Easy !

I have the same set up in a couple of my planes and I use the new hobbico mkII for my 2 reciever packs (both 1400), and my older fast field charger for the transmitter and ignition packs (1400 and 1100) and can fast charge all 4 packs at the same time. If you don't have an older fast field charger, just get 2 hobbico mkII's. At $50 each, you got all your batteries covered.

If you want an over night charger, try the ace digipulse, it will do 6 packs From 10 to 150 mah in 16hrs (in any configuration). I have cycled 1800 packs with the 1500 output on the digipulse with the same numbers as when charged with 1800mah on another charger (ace ddvc). So I am confident of full charges will the digipulse up to 1800 mah in both nicd and nimh. from 1 to at least 8 cell packs

I just read about this. Your next chance is 2 minutes on January 6th at 9 AM eastern time.

This is the _ONLY_ charger that will do what you want. It will charge 4 batteries at the same time.

Strange, I have one that does 4 packs at one time and can also do 4 amps total and has a computer interface plus I know of at least one other that can do it.

Gary,

Can you tell me who makes them? One of the problems with the Alpha, though an excellent charger, it can only put a max of 1 amp total, or 250 mah per channel.

Are you talking about the Ultimate Charger 2 $$$$

As you noted, that is a problem and is exactly why I cancelled my order a couple of years ago when I came up on the ready to ship list.

I personally use the UI Profi 02 and the other one is the big Sommer unit. As I recall there is also at least one unit from the UK that is also very good.

Oops. Just remembered you folks back home have 110 volts (been here too long). These units use 220. The Sommer can be had with a 12V option if that would help.

As one post said hook up all the cells with a jumper cable. That works fine if you like firerworks. You cannot charge different batteriers or miliamp caps. together To gang charge cells they have to be same type and same cap. you cannot mix 500 mil with 800 mil and charge together unless the charger does TX and RX or designed to do different charging types

And people wonder why Litco has a backlog, while others suggest they are bought for bragging rights LOL.

The Alpha 4 is the only unit that I know of that has 4 ports, can independently charge/discharge/cycle all the batteries in a giant scale plane (usually 3 or 4 packs) at the same time all from one unit that costs less than $300. Basically, Litco hit a niche market in the giant scale arena, and has no competition at all

Sure, it has some short comings. But then so do all the other chargers on the market that can't even handle multiple ports at all. Do you need multiple ports, or do you need more amps? If you need both, you are SOL, so people pick what is most important to them.

That leaves 1 4 port charger, or dozens of single port higher amp chargers.

Stephen, I guess you are right -IF- you mean Litco is the only 110V charger that can do it. Other than that, both the UI and the Sommer far surpass it as does a unit or two from the UK.

This is one time I'm glad to be working off of 220V.
