Hi everyone,

I am located in the Philadelphia area, and have a set of Ziroli plans (92" P-47) and Vailly Aviation plans (FW-190) that I would like to duplicate (for my own use only - to cut out templates for parts, and build over so I can protect the originals). I went to Kinko's, but they wanted over $100 PER PLAN to copy! This number seemed very high to me, so I am not sure if it is correct. The person working at Kinko's seemed very confused at the time, so I might have to check again when the manager is in.

Anyway, does anyone have any recommendations on where / how to duplicate plans for your own use? If you are local to Philly, great, if not, just general recommendations would work also.

Thanks for the help!

John

Wow! I suspect you'll have better luck if you try again. My kinko's charged $4 per sheet on the self-serve large format scanner/copier. This was to copy paper 3ft wide, no limit on length.

Ha Jbeck

Just when I thought we were being ripped off here in the UK. Changed my mind now as I have just paid £3.65 for the same service in my local photocopying shop.
Hang on what's that in Dollars - just of $5 - huh still being ripped off…:

Wow
I got ripped off . I also copied plans for personal use. I want one on the wall and one to build on. My Kinko's charged $1.00 per square foot of paper on 3'wide roll. Cost me an arm and a leg.
Where was the cheap Kinko's. Mine also charges $1.50 /ft for enlargements

I emailed Kinkos and am waiting a reply. It seems that the pricing should be somewhat consistent, at least by general geographic area...

Based on the general feedback of $1.00 per square foot, if each sheet was 3' x 8', you be looking at $24.00 per sheet. I believe that there are about 4 sheets per plans, so give or take some sizing, it is still about $90 - 100 per set.

It seems cheaper to by another set than to duplicate the originals, which doesn't seem to make sense. I am hoping for a conclusive answer from my email, and I will post the results here. I have to believe some of the tenured builders out there know the key places to go!

Thanks again for everyone's help!

You can also check with some of the commercial contractors in your area. If you have friends or family in the business, that's even better. When you call, ask them where they get their blueprints copied. Usually they are more than willing to help.

My brother is a contractor, and has offered to get mine done whenever....

My kinkos charges .45 cents a sq foot. Jbeck I have the plans scanned in to tiff format if that would help you just email me. you could use your originals and save these to cd so if you ever needed them printed out later. also try engineering firms, i get my printouts done by a company that does them for the cuty, architects, railroad etc they charge 5 bucks a sheet no matter the size and they also can scan them to cd for me. man if only i had a spare 45 grand laying around would love to get me the wide format scanner/printer they have.

My area Kinko's charged me about $24.00 for copying my Vailly FW -190 plans . Which I thought was reasonable.

kinkos prices are area set up. when I went to chicago on business took my cd's with me to get some stuff printed and they wanted about 65 bucks for a set of 4 sheets to be done. I have friends on the east coast that fork out about 17 bucks a sheet to get printed. I guess I am one of the lucky ones as it only runs me 5 bucks here.

Her in Cedar Rapids, Iowa I use Copy Works to copy my Ziroli plans. If I am not making an elargement or reduction it is $2.95 sheet. If making elargements or reductions price goes up because the attendant has to monitor the machine and price varies from $6-$12 depending on the size of the sheet and the amount of time they spend calculating the enlargement/reduction rate.

Hi again,

Just an FYI - still haven't received a response back from my email to Kinko's yesterday (Isn't funny how the internet and email make us impatient !)

I might take a ride over after work again tonight, and see if there is someone who can help. ProfLooney helped me out with the Thunderbolt, and I have alot of good ideas from the posts in this list, so thank you everyone. I think I am going to try Drexel University's engineering / architecture department. They should be able to copy blue prints (I think! )

Have a great new year everyone!

my chicago kinko's has the large blueprint type scanner that is self serve. just feed it in and it copies and prints it out. it was 5 bucks per sheet, no limit on length.

i did find something interesting however.

when i was getting ready to cut my plans apart to fit on my building board, i have a copy over an original plan. they had "grown" slightly when they were copied. just a little bit, but it would not have been cool to build a left wing with original plan and a right wing with copy "a".

i checked and copy "a" and copy "b" are exactly the same size, but not the same size as the original.....oh well, so much for my plan of having a extra set of plans if i mess one up!!

i did make a copy of the plans (4 sheets, tape the
wing set together and the fuse set together) and reduced them 25% and then laminated them. that was i think 2 bucks per sq ft, but now i have a really nice set of plans to look at that are not so darn big that i cannot move in my little work space!

any one else have a plan "shrink or grow" when copying???

cheers
