Thanks. Sounds good! Let's hope the guy there uses a good airfoil. The Yak in general has very good moments IMHO so with the right airfoil it should perform well. I unfortunately do not have any more specs on me other than what's in the thread. Can't find anything on the net either. I'll see if I maybe saved my manual at home.

Greg: ??You perhaps still have the specs there?

Cheers

Ok Thank you,

The difference I found in the specs is that the length on mine will be a little longer. The constructor said that is to increase the precision fight.
Basically my specs are:

Wingspan: 1600mm
Length: 1500mm

Congratulations!! Ive just seen the video and I think its great; the airplane and the pilot hehe. The Yak flown fine and due to it low cost and high quality, Ill see if I get it. Phoenix Models have won all my trust with Sea Bee and Giles, both performing wonderful.

Thanks for your review about it!.

Arksharth: Always a pleasure! If the other Yaks in the world flies anywhere near as good as mine I will put my reputation on the line and say you guys would not be dissapointed with it. I have gotten mine tweaked now and found all the little tricks regarding the CG, the elevator throw, radio setup etc and I am really having a blast with this model now. So much so I flew my pilot in two (Yea somehow the little guy lost hes head...literally lol). It is really weird for me though that Phoenix has not gotten this plane out for everyone to have. Might be worth a shot mailing some folks like Tower and even Phoenix models to complain. My Yak has officially become my weopon of choice for our Freestyle Aerobatics season this coming year, all I need to do is get some cash saved up so I can buy another one.

Hi,

Anyone knows why is so difficult to find/buy this plane, Phoenix YAK-54?
At least, here in Spain, in my hobby shop, there has been sold very few units and that's all.
No more neither the distributor knows about.

Regards

At last, finished was a little disappointed with the CofG, had to add weight to get it to balance, dont like doing that, however the GMS76 is light so I guess you have to live with it, will see how if fly's tomorrow if the weather comes good.
Photo in my profile.

Hi Greg,

Trust you will let us know how the maiden goes. Did you move the battery right up in the nose to just behind the firewall? This is where I had to put mine initially to get the plane to balance to the recommended CG. You might want to move the CG back from the recommended like I did anyways later so don't worry too much about the weight in the nose now, you might end up removing some of it.

Good luck with the maiden!
Cheers
Rudolf

Maiden yesterday, Beautiful!!, did have the CofG back about 1/2" from recommended, went great and the GMS76 was perfect, only got one flight in. The weather was so bad had about a 20min break in between thunder storms, wind dropped so we went for it, 2 clicks of right aileron and 2 of up elevator, thats it, looked unbelievable against the heavy black thunder clouds.
landed like a freight train, so will swap the 12X8 to a 13X6 might slow it down a little, thought it was going to land in the next town, hell it came in hot, went around the first time, the GMS76 [Very impressed with that engine] just hauled it straight up and out, still took the length of the strip the on the second try.
Wont get another chance to fly it till Wednesday next week, our club is going to a Funfly comp etc in 2 weeks, want to get it sorted out before then. Impressed you bet!!.
Cheers Greg

Hahah..congrats Greg! Glad it went well. You know that leaves one thing confirmed. This plane has something funky going for it on the landing, mine also comes in like a freight train and you can't really let her slow down too much before she gets wonky on you. But ok I guess all the smaller "scale" aerobatic models has this going for them. This one is noticably fast on the landing though, definitely not recommended for beginners. But yes ok other than the landings the plane has really no bad habits.

Hi all,
I just found this plane and it looks like a great plane ... would like to know how an O.S.Max FS-120 S-E Surpass would be in one. I want to go for a 4-stroke, i know the saito would be a good choice but it is very hard to find one in my country.

I've never used the airplane before, but for what I've heard, concerning about airplane weight, dimensions, etc, I think the O.S. FS-120 is one of the best options you can choose.

If someone who had used the engine can support my oppinion, please... thanks

Have a nice day!!
Andrés

Hi all,

This is mainly a question for Spacey.

I have installed in mine a Saito FA125a, and after placing batteries (5 NiCd elements, 1700 mAh, so a heavy pack) and receiver just behind fuel tank, ....it is TAIL HEAVY !!!!!!!!!!!!. When I have measured the CG, it is 11.5 mm, and the recommended is 10mm.

Please Spacey, where did you place your batteries and servos, i would appreciate if you have photos of your installation.

Thanks in advance and regards,

I don't think I quite understand your CG measurements etc? you're saying it's 1.5mm behind the recommended? That's less than the thickness of a toothpick? Also where are you measuring the CG from? Maybe it's supposed to be cm in your post above? Please explain?

You can see in the pictures on page 2 that all my servos are where the manual recommends them to be, elevator servos in the tail, aileron servos in the wings and the rudder+throttle servos in the tray that is supplied in the fuselage. My reciever sits below this tray and at the moment by battery is taped and wrapped to below the wingtube sleeve. Not sure where my CG measures to now but I know it's quite a ways behind the recommended CG. But I have to warn you it is very tailheavy the way I have it and lands harrier style. You could maybe move your battery to next to the tank or something?
