Hi Greg,

Sorry for the late reply, I was on a rather long holiday.

No luck yet finding a canopy no. The LHS is working on it apparently but I have no word on the matter yet. It's out of my hands though so yea what can I do. I don't have any ideas either to fabricate one, contemplated it but it'll definitely be a way last resort. I have too much on my plate now to make time to make a vacume forming machine or something to build one with. I also considered just making a balsa canopy to use for now but time is a problem for that. I'm not stressing yet though, will first wait for news from the Phoenix supplier in ZA.

Hi Spacey: In our latest copy of Airborne mag {Aussie R/C Mag} their is a story of a fellow who makes canopy's, he has been supplying them for 15 years to the hobby in Australia and overseas, they are are very high quality out of 1.5mm PVC plastic, very high resistance to ultra vilot and heat etc etc.
If your local hobby shop can't come up with the goods you may like to give him a try.

Have no idea of cost etc but worth a try, I know if mine has the same problem this summer that's where I will replace it, once and for all, the supplied ones with the kit are of poor quality and really must suffer in the heat.
After reading the article about him I would bet that they are of very high quality and well worth the effort.

Greg

Welcome to RCU! Pierre I pressume?

Greg: Finally got some good news on my Yak's canopy. The supplier phoned me (Yes he phoned me personally..lol) to confirm he has a canopy on the way for me, apparently there's been some holidays out in the East where the stuff comes from but I'll have it very soon. Fingers are itching to get the plane out for a couple of flights!

Cheers
Rudolf

Good news just keep it out of the sun!!.
Better news than the broken part for my GMS, still waiting,
Think I will have to rearrange the needle to the front on the carby, sick of waiting,
cost more in phone calls than the part is worth.
Cheers Greg

Hi guys,I have maidend the second Yak 54 63" at our club yesterday, and boy does it fly nice! The owner of the plane fitted my old Os 91 Fx and to be honest it can do with a bit more power but,for your basic manuvers it is more than enough.Another thing I saw yesterday is that not one Yak kit fly the same that is in the 63" range,But allround this plane is great fun.Stall is a no thrill and landing the plane is a piece of cake,Spacey mentioned in one of his previos letters that his plane came in a bit hot, but to be honest with the 91 strapped to the front it really comes in quite slow for a perfect three pointer.a Larger motor will definatley make it diffirent to fly,but I won't go in discusion around this. And yes it will make the landing a wee more difficult.Specialy in NO WIND conditions then it will be very hot!!Safe flying to All!!!

Greg,

Try clicking on the "Post Reply" button below the last post instead of using the "Fast Reply" option down at the bottom of the page. In the post reply screen you should quickly see the "Click here to upload images and files!" just below the text window. Click that and it's pretty self explaining from there how to browse for the image on your computer and upload from there.

Cheers

Hey guys, you think this plane will fly ok with a Zenoah G20 EI. The engine weighs 41 oz (Engine, Muffler & Ignition) and can swing a 15 x 6 @ 9500 rpm generating 13.4 to 14 lbs of static thrust, and is suited for round cowl applications like this YAK. The OS 120 AX swings a 15 x 10 prop at around the same rpm's and weighs 10 oz less. I have completely quit glo flying, sticking only to Gas and electric and this plane kinda appealed to me. Also gas engines need a smaller fuel tank so the 10 oz weight difference will be offset a bit.

Also if someone can tell me what the diameter of the Yak cowl is, it'll help me determine how much shoe-horning is required to fit the Zenoah engine.

Cheers.....
