In the latest FlyRC magazine, some of you may have seen a small notice about the Kaos Historical Association. A guy named Rick Mitchell is trying to create a newsletter with information about all things Kaos/Chaos. He is proposing a $5 annual fee for the quarterly newsletter just to cover costs. A free web site may also be created. I am assisting him in gathering information because he does not use RCU.

If any of you have any information or leads about where to obtain information about the history and development of the Kaos/Chaos line of planes, it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for your help.

That is way cool! It is the only “classic” pattern aircraft (somewhat modified from the original Kaos, ½ way between the old 40 and 60) still for sale at large mail order operations like Tower and others. Not a bad life span for an old pattern aircraft. Didn’t the Kaos 60 kit come out around 70 or 71. I know I had nasty midair with one in the winter of 72 ending the life of my first Cold Duck!

I was only 7 years old in 1970 and I didn't start flying until 3 years ago so unfortunately I never got to experience the classic pattern aircraft. Trying to catch up now.

I suggest you go to the source. Get in touch with Joe Bridi in California.

When there is a place to send my 5 bucks, let me know. I have had about 8 of them, and have an Ultra, Killer and Super Kaos kit I need to get built. You just can't find a better flying airplane -- PERIOD.

We would also like to know what level of interest people would have in a newsletter about the Kaos/Chaos planes. If you are interested, please indicate that here or send me a PM or email.

I had a 40 size Kaos with a Webra .49 back in about 1976 . . followed by 60 Super Kaos with an Australian made Taipan .61 (manufactured by Gordon Burford in Adelaide, Australia). Really nice flying planes.

PS. these followed on from Phil Krafts' Kwik-Fly Mark III . . . that was sweet toooo

Wouldn't mind one again as a sport model . . Modified to use todays building techniques (including CA) they would be awesome . . I think most of us built models way too heavy back then ! !
If memory serves, the pattern manuveurs back then didn't require as strong verticals, and they didn't require as much "side on" flying through manuveurs (Knife edge ability wasn't so important) . . struggling to remember.

I have three Tower Kaos .40's and a Graupner Kwik Fly III. I would be interested in an Email newsletter. I'm getting my second Kaos ready to fly now. Maybe this Sunday I'll fly it. It's powered by a Como .40. I can't wait to see how it performs.

Am also interested in the Kaos historical association. Have a Super Kaos and a Killer Chaos I'm currently flying. Also have a Kaos kit, Super Kaos kit, DC Ultimate Kaos. Am looking for a .40 size Kaos of some sort. Let me know about the association. Thanks, Ray

I am interested in the Kaos newsletter and/or website.

Have built and flown several Kaos over the past 30 years. I also have 2 original Bridi Kaos kits and 2 original Super Kaos kits complete in boxes stored in my workshop. These are the Bridi versions, not the Great Plains version. They are just waiting for their spot in the workshop project list.

Until just recently, I was flying an old Kaos I inherited from a flying buddy when he passed away. I have had it for probably 15 years and flown it with Webras, Super Tigre Blueheads, OS 60s, etc. Unfortunately, I had a midair with it several months ago and lost it forever. This plane was 20+ years old and still flew great. My son and I loved to go out to the flying field and have touch and go contests until it was too dark to see. Great memories, Great Plane!!!

Don

Thanks everyone for your replies and interest. Unfortunately, unless a lot more people express interest in this project in the next two weeks, Rick is going to cancel the project due to lack of response. I personally would still welcome any information on the history and development of the Kaos/Chaos models.

I have been reading the things about the Kaos and I finally flew my first Tower Kaos this weekend and it flew just great. I have watched over the years the different (pattern planes) fly but since this was my official first pattern I was totally amazed at how easy it was to trim and fly. Just wanted to make a comment about the plane. I would like to find a set of plans for another Kaos and build it with silk and dope. I sure miss the smell of dope and paint.

I just purchased an RTF Tower Hobbies Kaos .40 from someone who only flew it one day and then decided he liked to fly planes that floated more instead of pattern like. The plane came with everything but a receiver. Normally I like to build but the price was great. I am really looking forward to flying it.
