Status: offline 		I dropped by the AMA District II electric fly in at beautiful Dorbrook Park last Saturday. I saw a flight demonstration by Tom Hunt of Silent Electric Flyers of Long Island in what looked like an electric sailplane. I was floored by what I saw as I never seen a sailplane fly before. The electric motor had a distinctive roar and the plane shot up in the sky like a rocket at what must have been well over 100 mph. Wow! I never imagined sailplanes can go that fast - it reminded me of the time I first saw a jet demo at the Giant scale flyin at MRCS at Imslaytown - but that was with a powered with a turbine.

Tom's plane looked very much like a regular sailplane - very sleek with thin wings. I was very interested in finding more about what powers that beauty but had to leave early. Does anybody know what kind of motor / esc powers these high speed sailplanes use?

Pardon my ignorance - as I just got started in the R/C hobby - flying a 3D Buddy parkflyer ( that does maybe 30 mph at full throttle. )
