Hey guys, I am still learning this hobby but I would like to start thinking about achieving my goal to fly a warbird. After all, that's why I started! I am very interested in some of the old soviet designs. I have seen some Yak plans from Gus Morphis in the 1/12 combat size but I was hoping to get something in a .40 size plane. I have done some google searches and I haven't come up with much. I don't expect to find a kit but I thought about scratching one out from plans. Has anyone found plans for a Yak-3 or Yak-9 in a 40 or 60 size? I also thought about making a .40 size P-40 and making kind of a Lend-Lease version, but I have been pretty dissapointed there too. It seems that a Mustang is about all that is available in .40 size kits. The exception is Wing, Mnf.'s P-40 "short kit" Has anyone flown/built this kit? Any help you guys can give me would be great. Thanks in advance.
Respectfully,
J.D.

I'm in the middle of building a giant scale yak-3 from Jerry Bates and it's about as close to scratch building as your gonna get. Russian aircraft from ww2 are not very abundant, that's why when I stumbled across this 90.5 inch warbird I snatched it up. No one seems to fly russian birds unless they are jets. good luck with your search!

Gus Morfis also has plans for a 1/6th scale Yak-3. That gives it a span of 65" and the cost is $44.95, which sounds pricey but Gus does do good work. THe last number I have for him is (310) 378-5679.

If you want .40 size blow up Gus' 12 scale plans 30% I've done this with both the MiG3 and MiG15. I balsa sheeted foam wings and they fly wonderfully. I built mine both as hand launch. Lost the Mig 15 on a bad launch so you might consider put gear on them if you are not experanced at hand launching.
