Has anyone tried mixing gas in with methanol? I live in manitoba canada methanol is 9 dollars a gallon and castor is 15 dollars a quart. im looking for cheaper ways to make fuel. Any ideas?any other oils that i can use? im looking for oils that are widely avalible in canada. i think any 2 stroke oil that is jaso aproved and will mix with methanol would work fine.

A while back, a couple guys flew a model across the Atlantic. I remember the article saying they used white gas, ID coleman lantern fuel, in the mix because it had more BTU per ounce. I don't remember if they used a glow or ignition engine though. Maybe some one could point to a detailed article on this plane and engine setup.

How about using ethanol?

At those prices i dont blame you .. why not just buy pre made fuel ? You should be able to dig around and get some better prices than that.. methanol shouldnt cost more than $4 a gallon even in small quantities..

As I recall it was an OS engine converted to spark ignition

Yeah the methanol was 8 dollars a gallon if i buy a whole drum. but i can go to a race store and get it in indvs gallons for the same price. Has anyone tried using e85? right now its only avalible to goverment fleet vehicles in manitoba. [:o] its actualy the same price if i buy mixed fuels with nitro as compared to mixing my own without nitro. I think its time to start building larger rc vehicles and use plain old gas.

You can mail order your methanol from world fuels. Don't have the address but maybe a search would find them or someone else has an address.

i am in a similar situation as you are, fuel very expensive, i tried for years, screwed up my t-maxx engine trying to get a proper mix, came close but havent really found a solution!!

GAS would be the best way to go from here!!

I suggest clicking on the Canadian distributor closest to you and giving them a call.

Premixed fuel here is around $13 or $14 a gallon in US dollars, so $9 Canadian a gallon sounds petty good to me. You ought to be able to get Klotz too for about the same as you get the Castor.

Cheers,

It seems that just about everyone is in favour of Castor.
The last time I was in an autoparts store, I asked the kid behind the counter if they carried 2 stroke oil with Castor in it. The kid looked at me with glazed eyes and then looked at the wheels on the chair next to him and asked if I needed to oil the caster wheels on a chair or something

Anyway... I was just wondering if anyone has tried 2 stroke oils like PJ1 or Lucas intended for motorcycles. I know they are synthetic, but they are easier to get then high quality Castor and I always have some of that on hand...

Thanks

If an autoparts store has any two stroke oil, its for an old SAAB. Next time ask at a store that has parts for two stoke engines, its fairly common at motorcycle shops.

Oh, I know about 2 stroke oils. I use PJ1 in all my bikes. I have a Yamaha RZ500 road bike and a couple of off road 2 strokes. Thats why I always have some on hand.
I was just wondering if this type of oil is suitable to add to something like Morgan Sidewinder to raise the oil content.

Never mind.
I decided to go back and read the old posts from the begining.
Just about every question I can think of has been posted at one time or another.
