Does anyone know where to get .cor and/ or .dat files for airfoils? Is there a free program that you have found? Thanks.

do a google search for selig and "airfoil database" and you'll find the great Dr Selig's site with all kinds of goodies along with the dat file libraries.

Are .dat files just written in a text editor like Note Pad or Word? If I write my own code in a text editor, will it work the same? I need to use these files on a CNC foamcutter. Thanks.

Go to the French CNC web site http://gm.cnc.free.fr/index_en.html and download Profscan and Creadat. These two programs can be used with some success to change wing profiles into dat. files so that the Gilles software will work

Try this, if they don't have what your looking for, probably no one will. This URL keeps changing for some reason, everytime I refer to it I have to search again for it and it has changed. Use the search for "uiuc airfoils".

The dat files are indeed just simple text files that you can create or modify using a simple text editor. It's the format that's important. The programs that use this data are expecting certain numbers and spaces at the right places.

I've added a couple of files myself for special cases and never had a problem.
