This Proud Bird (Q-40) fuse just hatched this morning................not even trimmed yet. Still have to do the wing, stab, pan, and cover.

The Neme-Q fuse (Q-500) is one I pulled last week.

Why, yes! Nice plug, nice molds. Someone needs to dust off that plug and make another set of molds so I don't have to give this set back so quickly.....

I should get a keg of epoxy and splash those wing molds, eh?

Make two sets and send one to me! All that time into the plug and I've only had two fuses out of it...LOL

By the way, that's a BRIGHT yellow..I like it, but I'm sticking with my current color scheme....

Yeah, it's bright alright. I really don't "have" a current color scheme and I'm trying out a few things. If any of it grabs me I might keep it.

Tony,
How's the wing coming? Ready to pull it out of the mold yet?

Is this the same type currently flying at the NATS?

It's one of the PB designs at the Nats. Jim Allen and Scott McAfee are flying them. Mike Tallman and Jerry Elert may be as well, I know they have them, but not sure if they're using them.

GS,

Did the cover and pan last night, will prep skins tonight, should have wing and stab bagged before the weekend and out before Monday. In the meantime I've got to get the fuse molds ready and painted for another layup on Saturday.

This may not BE production, but it's sure starting to feel like it!

Tony

Not the prettiest or the lightest (31 ounces) but I believe it'll be flyable. The first one's usually an experiment. It took 10 days from cutting the masks to all pieces out of the molds and that includes a lot of head-scratching. I'm hoping to do the next one in less than 7 days.

It's the first time I've used this paint and I didn't know what the colors would look like together. The checks and fuse lettering are a dark blue but actually look to be black. Same goes for the lettering on the bottom of the wing; the backshading is black and the letters are blue but they all look like the same color. I'll have to lighten it up a shade or two for the next one. The checks on the tail were supposed to be on the top, too. I painted it before realizing that I masked the wrong side. Duh! The lettering on the side of the fuse could have been bigger, too. As I said, lots of learning.

Time to "karate kid" for the next one ("wax on, wax off. wax on, wax off.)

Looks good Tony! Although I think you're a masochist with those small checks done in the mold, I would've done larger checks so I don't have to peel them all out....

The weight will come down as you do more. The first wing Jim pulled out of the mold was about 22 ounces, and as you know, they're pretty much all under 16 now....31 ounces doesn't sound that bad, although I don't know what ours typically run at that stage of the build. I know we used to shoot for about a pound and a half for a framed/monokoted Q500 to make the 3.5 minimum. If the fuse and tail are heavy, it will probably want to come out tailheavy, so you may end up with the battery in front of the fuel take (not too hard since the tank's on the CG, and the nose is empty anyways), maybe even put the servos farther forward if you can....

I think it'll be OK regarding weight and balance; fuse is 8.4 oz, tail is less than 2. The wing alone is 4 ounces heavier than it needs to be. Then again, I've purchased commercially-available wings that weighed 19 ounces before painting. Mine's probably not all that bad. We'll see.........

Wax on, wax off. Wax on, wax off. Wax on, wax off.............
