The excuse of it's a trade secret is in my personal but very strong opinion one big pile of BS!

Even STS agents will not reveal how to disassemble the STS engines. Secret my @$$. So what if we know how to disassmble the STS? how will that affect engine sales?

I must know. My curiosity is killing me.

WOW I dont know what to say. I dont think I would ever hear that. Thats just sad. Well I guess I will not be buying any of there engines. I guess you should send an email back to them and show him all the business he has lost for himself and racer nine. actually give him the link to this as let him see for himself. If your going to run a business then you should help your customers out, not tell them to drop the subject and move on.

Once again that is sad.

Yeah, it is such a pity for an upstart company such as STS to adopt such policies. If they want to become competative in the nitro engine market, they should be more customer freindly as far as this goes. Everone eventually rebuilds their engines and for the engine maker to adopt such a policy with the customers AND the distributors will not help their goal in taking market shares.

Anyway, I think it is a pity since STS is a great engine and it would actually hold up against higher dollar engines with some refinements. Taking this stance will not help thier position.

I should also add that an STS sales rep actually told someone to make a tool or to simply to "lever" up the conrod by prying it off of the crankshaft pin! See the following post:

Didnt know if anyone ever figured out how to get the con rod off the crank??? I found in another forum the manual to the engine and found that the Clip holding the wrist pin to the rod is on the intake side through the boost port. Maybe this will help in removal, please post back if anyone tries this, the other forum says it will work, just curious, my friend has one that we want to do some porting and polishing to.

I just got the sts .28 stage 2 dadder mod engine. After I break it in and run the rc pro series race in Joliet Illinois, I'll see what I can do to take this thing apart.
The only thing I can think of as for a reason why they wont tell you info on con rod removal is that there engines are cheaply priced.
Pick one up new off ebay for 160 vs 250 plus for a novarossi/rb/os ect, thus pay the guys 50 bucks to rebuild or replace the worn out parts and your still saven money.
I agree, its bull **** they wont give the "secret" on removal, but if they can do it its only a matter of time before someone here figures it out and lets everyone know.
Thats just my say on it all.

So, how do these engines run? Mine should be in by wednesday or thursday, its a .28 stage 2 mod. Im running the new ninja .21 in my lsp and was holding my own vs some of the .28 engines on the track, but Im going up to play with the big boys in the 4th round rc series and was hoping this has more punch than the .21 ninja (and its strong).
Thanks for any info, after next sunday I'll give it a shot at a tear down.

He did it!!!! My friend removed the con rod without any damage to anything. remove the sleeve, them put a zip tie around the rod, position it around 10 oclock, apply slight pressure to the tie pulling the rod toward you and rotate the crankshaft to where the rod moves between 10 oclock and 2 oclock, he said it popped right off, the engine had about a gallon of fuel through it. We are going to clean up the crank shaft some and do a little porting to the sleeve on Wednesday, put it back together, and see if it does any good, Im sure it will do some.

It wouldnt let me put all the pics on one reply, ??? oh well, there it is, from beginning to end, modded sts .28. He has it on a Hyper 8 1/8th scale buggy and it has insane power, as you can see the front tires where it spun the tread off of them, they started out as a set of crimefighters with 2 races on them, we were running on pavement, but that was done in less than one tank of fuel, it literally ripped the sidewalls of the front tires and almost removed all the tread off the rear tires. Just wanted to post the pics, hope ya'll like them.
