How are you guys mounting your switches? I'm going with 2 Ions 4800 with the switches on the inside, with the Ions I shoulden't have to charge at the field. maybe easer than cutting out the foam.
Thanks, Lee

Lee,

You can mount the switches on the inside but here's how to cut them if you decided to do that. Mark the area needed to be cut. Then use a new blade to cut the fuse which is very thin. Remove enough foam to fit the switch and enough foam from the other side to pass the wires. Once you dry fit them, make some alcohol epoxy and apply on the foam to keep them from coming off later. After that epoxy alcohol set you can insert the switch and screw them. Now you can use a little bit of foam CA on the screws.
BTW, with two 4800 you won't have to charge at the field but makes the plane about 1/2lb heavier.

It's ok to install the switches inside the fuse but you need to drill a hole into the slider part and guide it out with a rod. This way you have full control over the switch. I don't recommend to install the switches inside with no access! BTW, Quique's airplanes mostly have switches inside with the rod sticking out from the fuse. The 102" I did for the manual uses the same method for RX switch. Take a look at attached pic. Switch is in front of the receiver. Duralite failsafe switches have already the hole in the switch.

Thank you,
Reza
