anyone built / flown the FW-190 from AirWorld ? ( www.airworld-usa.com ) for just over $5k its not a bad deal, especially considering that would include the radial gasser, and the detail looks to be phenomanal .. its a big plane too ... im thinking about one of these and was wondering if anyone had any first hand experience or impressions on one of these ?

Voy I have seen Dino fly one at a couple different events now.
I believe it the Airworld FW that Dino capaigned at TG will be at
WOD this weekend? You might go and see it there, or at least
look up Dino as he will be there.

It is a sight to see AND here in the air

I too have seen this plane in person at Castle and can say that it is quite impressive in the air and on the ground.
And Dino does a spectacular job of showing it off.

There is a minor issue I have,
Its the wing planform and the vert stab/rudder size.
The wing appears to have been altered in that the trailing edge seems to have less taper than I am used to seeing on FW 190's.
It almost gives the wing the look of a T-6 planform in certain angles.
Also the size of the vert stab/rudder appears to have been scaled up.
Is this an illusion? I have been staring at FW190's for a few years now as they are one of my favorite designs.

Were these were deviations made to bring up the wing area and allow for better low speed stability?

Dont get me wrong guys, it doesnt mean I wouldnt like to have one.

I saw Dino fly his at Top Gun this year. Watching that plane coming out of a banked turn for a low high speed pass down the middle of the runway was something I never got tired of seeing. And oh, the sound of that 5 cylider Radial!!!!!!!!!!!

That's Dino's plane trailing Paul Letourneau's P-61 during one of the Noon Time demos! Sweeeeeeet!!!!

190 this weekend

My impression of it is that it's semi-scale at best. It's certainly not a contest type ship because the outline alone is way off. Some don't like the scale debate, but if it were not for the scale debate modeling would be totally boring to me. Flying planes that sort of resemble full scale ones around in circles does not excite me either, so I'll offer my .02 cents. Looking at the pictures I've compiled is enough evidence to see what I mean. The fuselage is completely the wrong scale and shape from the nose to the tail, in fact so much so that it doesn't even have a FW190 look to it. Fuselage is to round and thin at the start of the fin. Canopy is to large and to close to the wing. Bulge on cowl is to big and the wrong shape. Nose has been extended and the cowl is the wrong size and shape. The fin and rudder appear to large, but I did not measure that, to much wrong already to bother. Conclusion: It's a very nice quality semi-scale, highly decorated model. In my opinion I would want better scale accuracy for the money.

I have seen this plane fly a couple of times. It sounds great with the Radial and it flies quite well too. John Christiansen and Jason Schullman both flew it at Joe Nall and it was impressive in the air and looks pretty good on the ground if you do a good job and stand ten feet back. I almost bought one finished a couple of years ago and went to check it out. Apart from the scale details poiinted out earlier, The rivet detail is horrible. They are huge holes stamped every so often along the panel lines. There are other issues too. My flying buddy, Steve Thomas from Bobs Hobbies just got his back from being repainted and it looks phenomenal but I still cringe when I get close to that surface detail, Most people will never know about the outline innacuracies but who can tell. The plane is great as a pure flier but is definitely not a major scale contender. As a showcase for the Moki Radial it is fantastic and if you get it it will put smiles on any spectators face and yours too but know what you are buying first. I will post a couple of pics of Steves new plane to let you see how cool it can look after we go flying on Friday.
If you want a scale Butcher Bird then here is where to go, it is smaller but far more pleasing to my eye.

Good Luck

Hey guys,
Thanks for the kind comments. Airworld never claimed their FW 190A to be a perfect scale model therefore there should be no surprise. However, being that it took best Pro-Am and best gas engine performance does say something about the entire set up. Myself only being the pilot cant take all the credit. The entire outline of the FW is wrong to the eye of a "scale" modeler. I have to say its a pleasure to fly. There are almost no bad habits. Its only bad habit is typical of almost every FW 190 on the market. Pavement is rough to fly off. Tracking can get squirly at times. The engine speaks for itself, Airworld's 215 is a monster and a gem to run. Airworld's 250 will be even better. There has been many questions regarding Moki, RCS and Airworld. Ill try and clear this up for those who had the same question. RCS does not make the engine, they simply place their name on it with a sticker. Moki is not the same Moki that makes the glow engines. Moki is actually owned by Airword. Airworld-USA.com will be importing some exlusive engines in the near future. Airworld-USA has done a great deal to promote and service all the owners of their radials to date. I personally have helped out many customers who have had service done elsewhere and have not been satisfied. If anyone has any questions regarding the motor please let myself or Airworld-USA.com know! I will be attending WOD Friday through Sunday. If anyone would like more info or simply want to check out the plane please stop by or call me cell at 973-384-7084. We would love to meet you! The president, Jorge Radge and associate Joey C. will also be attending.

i have an airworld fw. i have been flying it for 2 years. everywhere i go it is the bomb. period. hardly anything at the event as nice, not to mention it has a size that gives her a real presence. is it perfect scale, probably not. but 99 percent of the spectators dont know that and enjoy the model for what it is. a model. yes, i have seen the few come by and say man those rivets are overdone or i think this is incorrect and that is not the right way, but they eventually go back to their lawnchairs and talk about what they are building while i am flying. my point is it may not be for everyone, but if you are looking for something unique, something really nice, and a darn, and i mean darn good flyer, than the airworld fw190 is the plane. besides isnt it about having fun, well it is for me anyway. when i get home i will post a pic or two of mine. woj, get you one, it aint no jet pack, but it is your kind of plane , barry

I agree and have also seen Barry's fly 2 years ago at Bomber Field in Texas as well.

the Airworld 190 just has a huge presence on the ground and in the air. is it totally correct? no, but as Barry said, some people dont matter to them, they see it for what it is, a FW.

the SisT is a very good example of a FW. I have the 1/5 scale A8, and am waiting on the 1/5 scale D9.
when the 1/4 scale is available I may get one of those to go along with my PCM 109.

but for the most part would I own an Airworld, sure I would. It just has its own presence in the air, that once
flying, you forget about what may, or may not be wrong with it
