It's a "loop" in the fuel line. Works like a mini-hopper supposedly. Lot's of the r/c car guys were doing this, but I'm not sure there's ever been any proof that it served diddly-di_k of a purpose. Duke Fox would also be the first guy to tell you (if he could) that any excess length in the fuel lines is bad. I tend to agree.

You decide.

It should help to keep small bubbles from entering the engine. Most of our engines have a low fuel flow so the bubbles would collect at the top of the loop. Never knew Duke Fox was responsible for this, but I could see this being handy for the older combat planes, before bladder tanks.

I flew combat through the 60's and used ve o pressure tanks. Never used any loop of tubing. At the rate we used fuel it wouldn't have done anything. 4 ounces in three minutes with a Johnson JBB

A lot of R/C car guys do it...the extra volume of fuel in the line will (supposed to anyway ) keep the engine running when you flip it upside down while racing...gives you or the turn marshall time to go and get your car and put it back on the track w/o the engine quitting. You just make a loop or two of fuel line about 1.5 to 2" dia. between the engine and tank.
Car fuel tanks don't have a "clunk"...they have a fixed pick-up...usually a sintered filter type.

Some guys do it to the exh. pressure line too...although the theory behind that one is a little questionable in my mind...
I guess that it's supposed to even out the pressure pulses to the tank? I think there are a couple other reasons why, but I just use the shortest lines to and from the tank...but I don't race in a series though...just "bash"

If you're talking about for airplane use...I've never heard of doing it...just keep the lines as short as possable.
