I'm still building (slowly) and watching all the comments. I too am waiting for the results of Whye's 4 stroke shoot-out comparison. Got the engine choice narrowed to 3 - OS .91 FX with Slimline Pitts, YS .91 FZ, or Saito 100 (which I already have). I did install an Elevator belcrank in the rear - SLICK.

I`m thinking of putting on a MVVS .77. Is it enough power. This engine weighs only 21,4 oz, will I run into balance problems with two elevator servoes.
Has anyone tried this configuration???

Carosel,
If you have not already, spend some time in the large "AW Edge 60 /90" thread in this same forum. There is a wealth of info there about this ARF. Bottom line, IMHO, the MVVS .77 will fly the AW Edge, but your 3-D envelope will suffer tremendously. Even if I use the Saito 100 at 22oz, my Edge is going to come in over 8 lbs. And I have done a BUNCH of lightening stuff. Dry weights of 8 3/4 - 9 lbs are common with this plane. It is really between a .90 - 1.20 size, not a 60 - 90.
Good luck.

How hard will it be to ballance this plane with a Saito 100 up front, Hitec/RCD HS-225BBJ Mighty Mini Servos in the tail at 3 3/4 from the leading edge? I want to fly it nose heavy for a little while until I get used to it...

Thanks Aerosplat, I did just that and what tremendous amount of info. available.
I never tried 4 strokes before so maybe a Saito 100 will be a good place to start. I also have a OS 91 FX, maybe that will do the trick. Anyone tried this config. The reason why I haven`t gotten into 4 strokes is because they are dreadfully ekspensive here in Norway, two strokes however are not. I got to admit though, I`m rally keen on trying one.

Hello all,

I am going about the assembly process slowly and looking out to see how other people are doing with theirs. I made my engine choice already and I picked the YS 91FZ. I have always wanted to try a a YS. Everyone at my field keeps saying YS. YS all the way. Lets see if it is as good as they say. I must mention that there are a lot of warbird guys at my field and they all use 40 sized warbirds (Primarily worlds models mustangs and zeros) with the YS91FZ in the front and those things haul a**. I imagine if I prop the engine correctly, I should have a good performer. I have elected to bury drilled and tapped hardwood dowels in the wing halves and secure them form the inside of the fuselage with nylon bolts. I think this is a neater and more secure way to mount the wings. I know that there is not a lot of outward pull on the wings and that the dowels and screws may be a bit overkill, but they weigh next to nothing and I just like the idea. It would be simillar to the fellow burried rods in his wing and keeps them together with some thick rubber bands. One other thing that I wanted to aske is if the CA hinges that came with the kit are actually CA hinges. I want to go with the CA hinges but I wanted to make sure those already on the plane are truly CA hinges and not just placeholders for the control surfaces until you put the metal hinges in. I am looking for a carbon fiber wing tube. I hope to save the weight as I feel the stock unit is heavy. If anyone has any luck finding one of these, could you please let us know where it came from. I found a site that I thought would carry them ( I posted that in another seperate post) but it turns out that they don't have exactly what I am looking for . For those of you using YS 91FZ and the stock engine mount, how are you hooking up your throttle linkage. Pictures of my Edge are on their way soon.

Patrick......I e-mailed the people at the site that you posted about the carbon fiber tube. I told them that the approximate dimensions were 11/16 outside and 9/16 inside diameter...I asked if they had something in this range/close.....they never answered my e-mail...

I am using those ca hinges that came with the kit and I bought a sheet to cut my own hinges that I am adding to all the surfaces. (the ca hinges they supply look like ca hinges so i used them...they seem to work )

I seem to remember seeing carbon fiber wing tubes on the
troybuiltmodels.com web site if this is not the site you already tried you might give it a shot i just installed there carbon fiber landing gear on my h9 edge540 because the aluminum bent to easy. it is very light and strong.

Didn't like the AW Edge 60/90........average quality typical ARF. Save your $money$ and skip this one.....your not missing much.

I'm almost done completing mine. I decided to go with Saito 120 for power, which is only 20g heavier than YS FZ 91 (which is way to difficult to adjust and maintain IMO) but puts out 2.2 hp as opposed to 2 hp by YS. I have Futaba 9202 on ailerons, dual Hitec HS-225MG in the rear for elevator, JR ES-321 on throttle and Hitec HS-5645MG Digital on ruder. The landing gear was changed to CF set from troybuiltmodels.com, which waits only 5.2 oz. It should be done in an about a week. I’ll post the total weight and some pics on this forum – THIS PLASE LOOKS AWESOME.
