Status: offline 		Hey gang, I'm not 100% sure if this topic fits here, so, if it doesn't, please just have a mod or admin remove it.

My question is regarding nitro fuel and Zippo lighters. Has anyone tried using nitro for fuel in a Zippo lighter?

Status: offline 		I doubt it would light. Nitro is similer to kerosene in viscosity and volitility. You can pour it into a bowl, and put a match to it and the match would go out without burning it.

Status: offline 		Perhaps, but "Ronsonol" lighter fluid makes a wonderful cold-weather starting agent for glow engines.

Ah, but I hear in other forums that some members had been using kerosene in their Zippos with good results. Though I myself don't want to test out that theory, since mine is still brand new and there isn't any in it yet that may hinder it.

Status: offline 		Kerosene will not work in a Zippo ( IMCO ) even if you put it directly from a Mig 21 tank. Don't ask me how I know.

Status: offline 		I beg to differ. Nitro based fuel WILL light in a Zippo. Ordinary Gas from your auto will light in a Zippo. Most of the "enes", benzene tolulene etc. WILL light in a zippo. I smoked for over 31 years and have been an avid hunter and outdoorsman. When you are in the middle of nowhere, you will find out exactly WHAT WORKS IN A ZIPPO!

Status: offline 		Stubshaft is right, any of the ....ene's will work to some degree. Stick with napthalene since that is what the Zippo and rossingnol fuels are.
A lot of the other fuel ..ene's have a much harsher stink or evaporate very rapidly.

I was speaking about the kerosene. Methanol or ordinary gas will do it with a lot of smoke, quite unhealty and the cigarettes have a funny smell the first couple of puffs. If you can light the zippo with kerosene or diesel you can set my pants on fire . It's not about the "ene" in the name. Diesel fuel and kerosene have a flash point over 125 F , the vapours will not ignite from a spark, you need an open flame to warm up the mixture or a very sunny day in desert.
Regular gas or methanol ignite easy from -40 F on athmospheric pressure. From my experience, as Fuelman pointed, naphtalene works best on Zippo. I used it for many years.

Status: offline 		I just can't believe that anyone is actually worried about this....especially when you can buy a Bic Butane for $0.99 at the gas station.

Spend a dollar and be done with it.

Status: offline 		I recall the Viet Namese kids selling JP-4 as Zippo fuel, it worked and stunk like fuel. JP-4 has a minus 65 degree F flash point. That stuff will lite off anywhere. It is classed as "wide cut gasoline." It is not used much anymore, being replaced by JP-5 and JP-8, forms of kerosene. More BTUs per pound than JP-4, slightly heavier too.

Status: offline 		In ecuador naphtalene is being used in glow fuel to raise octane. They can not get model engines to run right at their altitude without it. Has anyone ever tried this to see if we can get more power.
