Two Thousand and Three D

2003D, it may just be the year for 3D to really break out into the mainstream. If you look under the Aerobatic heading, there are over 24000 post in the 3D section and only 2500 between Pattern and IMAC. I know the forums just got split, so the numbers are not accurate, however 3D is growing. And I'm glad.

I do fly some pattern and some IMAC, but.................they just don't do it for me like flyn 3D does. Pylon does too, but its been around for years, 3D is allot fresher. What I like best is 3D also has appeal to the non-R/C community. The great WOW power for the spectators.

New, fresh, different, amazing and I don't like it, are only a few words that are used to describe 3D. Thats OK, not many people liked Rock and Roll and I am old...errr young enough to remember the controversies around Rap music, they are here to stay and so is 3D.

What I am personally excited most about is the availability of aircraft. There are more 3D capable airplanes available now then ever before. 3 years ago there were only a handful. There are several specific 3D planes like the Flips, UCD's and the Showflyer. Many of the Scale Aerobatic planes now have 3D surfaces and anything from a 25% to a 40% is available in an ARF.

What is going to be next evolution in 3D aircraft? The current trend is steering clear of the SA planes and more to specific 3D planes. I like that. Some of the 2 meter planes resemble scale planes, kinda a split between a pattern and a IMAC plane. I do like the current thinking of the Flip and the Diabolic with full flyn surfaces.

Its gonna take a little more time for this type of flyn to be accepted on a grand scale and I am cool with that. If we all have respect of each other, while flyn, there should be no issues with 3D. Yea, some don't like it, that fine, it's not their thing..so what, don't let it hold you back, they still enjoy it when you crash.

Where are we3D'ers going to be this time next year? 2 years from now, 10 years from now? I donno, I just can't wait for variable pitch turbine powered planes. That means we can fly, really fly................BACKWARDS!!!!!!

Happy New Year,

Well i was thinking about using a tail rotor for a prop so i could have collective pitch on the prop. hehehe

I think the 3D planes need a fuse. I love the profiles but there ugly. The pattern fuse and fun fly wings are ok but they look like something is missing. or is it just me? I don't mind the sa, but we need something really lite. maybe a combo like the seduction wild style. its a fuse, not pattern, lite, not profile, and looks good, but not scale......sorry just babbling.

It will be interesting to see what comes on the market in the next 5 years. Hopefully some of us here on rcu will influence the market and get some real nice planes out there. ( dreaming )

Airplanes cant 3D?? you better recognize what 3D is....helicotpers cant 3D till their wings stop movin!! I can out 3D a helicoter any day. as for the new evolution of 3D.......I think that designes will not change much, but the building materials will. I think that all composite aircraft is going to catch on, and maybe even be the new standard.
