One thing that seems to be getting left out on the tire/rim prep is to remove the mold flashing that appears on some tires, this prevents the tire from laying completely on the rim. When you sand, grind, etc. the seating surface on the rims you are only wanting to break the glazed surface, not make it real ruff. Reclean the rim after breaking the glaze. CA is strongest on non porus surfaces when it only forms a very thin layer between 2 relatively smooth surfaces.

no matter how you prep your tires/rims, when you hit a rock hard enough, it will cause the plastic rim to flex slightly. CA glue doesn't flex too well on plastic.

Either way, I'm done with CA glues from now on.

I'm just throwing this tip out there in case anyone wants to know about it. If you're a true believer of CA glue, fine, I don't care.
I am telling you this though, Marine 5200 is a MUCH better bond between rubber and plastic than CA glue.

Use it if ya want.
I know what I'll be using.

If you hit a rock hard enough you don`t have worry about the rim flexing , it will be broke .
Well , I suggest you go tell all the racers in the world to switch to marine 5200 so they can hurry up and get it before it sells out .

I think it was cool to share the tip. Too bad there's always someone that has to tell you to go jump in a lake. However, I'll be sticking with CA, since I often need to do a quick repair at the track and mostly can't wait 3 days for it to bond. Even with a new set of tires, I am usually on them well before 3 days. I've also never had a complete failure since I've been into RC (now that I've said that, no doubt I will now), so I can't see a need to 'upgrade' here. But thanks for the tip, and keep 'em coming!

The key is using hobby grade super glue, such as the stuff from Team Losi mentioned above. Yeah, you are going to pay 8 bucks a bottle, but it works. I was using cheapy grocery store stuff and constantly re-gluing my tires too. I tried the good stuff on my latest set of tires, and now my tires don't come off anymore.

I haven't read all the post in this thread, but the REAL KEY is technique. I use hobby store brand CA with great results. Peple are just way too impatient when it comes to properly gluing tires. I absolutely hate doing it myself, but I take my time up front to do it right, so I won't have to do it again. I do it in several steps and maticulously go areoung the tire looking for the smallest seperation. Or some occations after a lot of use, I may see a little openning. I just throw in a maintainence drop, and it's all good. Poor tire gluing can lead to a lot of irritation when you are out trying to have fun.

It's like:
* going fishing with rusty hooks and old line.
* going drag racing with tire belts showing
* shaving with with an old blade
* marrying a thin girl that you know loves sweets

If I didn't know better, I would think Mike was working for them or getting a commision the way he is selling this stuff.

Count me in as one of the 5 people who must know how to glue a tire because I have never had one come off on me and I live on the track.

Mike where did Slodsm curse, flame, degrade, insult or embarrass in his post ? If anything he said seemed attacking or hurt you , get over it . You can`t glue tires so you use marine 5200 , ok we get it , it works for you . Some people actually can make a miracle happen and glue their tires . You shared a tip that works for you , thankyou for that . If someone curses or flames you it will be taken care of as mods check through the threads for such .

Pfff, please.
Buddy, I'm "over it".

Let me help you out here:

Please resist the urge to insult someone in your post. "If I didn't know better, I would think Mike was working for them or getting a commision the way he is selling this stuff."
I take that as an insult. As I stated earlier in this thread, if you have good luck with CA glue, great, I don't care, use it if you want. And at no point did I direct anyone to any 1 store to buy it. Like I'm some hobby store owner who just got in a shipment of 5200.

Please resist the urge to degrade, or embarrass someone in your post. "Count me in as one of the 5 people who must know how to glue a tire because I have never had one come off on me and I live on the track."
Like I've never glued any tires on before. I've been doing this for 25 years. I've glued grasshopper tires onto road wizard rims in the mid 80's

and finally: We encourage the free flow of your ideas.....

I thought I'd post up some results for others to look at. But of course, there has to be the regular internet commandos that know everything and everyone else doesn't know jack.

Party on folks. Have fun on the 1/8 scale board.

Mike

Ya , it looks like your over it . Who on here says they know everything ? If they did I`d like to meet them . What do you expect coming on a forum and telling everyone you can`t glue tires using ca ? I know you ment it as a tip but come on you left yourself wide open for comments . Just because you took it as an insult it is not a curse, flame, degrade, insult or embarrass .

Ahhhh, Is that what happened. I get it now.
See, I thought I came onto a forum giving folks an alternative to CA type glues.
I didn't know that it really meant i'm an idiot that doesn't know how to glue a tire to any car I've ever owned.
Wow, thanks for showing me the light.

Next time, I'll post a thread stating that I'm an idiot that doesn't know how to make something work then ask for permission to use a particular product to cure it.
