Hey guys, I need help trimming my 74" yak, it is B46 powered and weighs 12 & 1/2 Lbs. Trimmed for level flight upright the elevator counter balances are about 3/32 In. lower than the leading edge of the elevator so it is carrying a little up elevator for level flight. You would at first think it's probably a little nose heavy, however it balances between the forward and aft figures given in the manual and when the plane is inverted it goes into a very shallow climb. When throttle is closed in upright flight the nose does not want to drop and the plane will eventually stall if left alone. I really don't like having to use a little down elevator to get it on the ground. The engine thrust line is now determined by the offset built into the firewall i.e the engine is mounted at 90 degrees to the firewall (up and down). So what do I need to do, a little up-thrust in the engine maybe, any advice will be appreciated.......RJ

Well it could also be the stab incedence? If you set that to zero then a little up thrust seems to be the fix..
Check the incedence, then just try a little bit up up thrust.. trial and error..

Its the stabs, mine was the same.Get an incidence meter and do the the necessary adjustments, its easy.
You cant measure or eyeball it,its only one or 2 degrees,The stabs are likely angled up a bit at the LE,which causes a down pitch.
You will never trim or enjoy the airplane if you dont take the time to slot the holes a bit and set it up 100%.Somewhere in this thread is a how to, with pics.Good luck.
It flies much better after the fix.

Fixing the stab is pretty easy, I have the document from EF if you need it. Mine was 2.5 off on one side and .5 off on the other. Just the nature of low cost, over seas, mass manufacturing.

Maybe that's why I never enjoyed mine. I just did not like the way it flew period and was always confused when people would rave how good it flies. I assumed coming from EF and the price you pay, it wouldn't have that problem. I wish I would've known about this before it went in so maybe I would fix the problem. Oh well...now I'm looking for something else to put my gear in. Really like the looks of it though.

If your incidence is on...try adding down thrust.I put about 1.5 degrees on mine and it flew way better....I had the same problem and the incidence wasnt off...

Barracuda

Can you also send me a copy of the document about fixing the stab incidence? Thanks. I have a new 74" Yak sitting in the box in my shop ready for the build. I hope I can learn from all the experience in this forum and avoid any problems.

Frank
