I have a OS 120 surpass that just will not run right on 2 stroke fuel . It loads up on idle and I have adjusted the needle valves and when I get it set so it will not load up at idle then it will die when I throttle up. it runs great on 4 stroke fuel . does anyone know how much methanol I have to add to 2 stoke fuel to bring the oil content from 18% to 15%? the fuel has 15% nitro and 67% methanol and the 18 % oil (caster/synthetic blend) The lhs does not carry 4 stroke fuel and the next place is 120 miles away but cant ship because it is considered Dangerous Goods

I rather doubt the use of 2C fuel is your problem. How old is the fuel that gave you the problem? Sounds more like it needs a little better tuneing to dial in the needles for the different fuel. Changing from one level of lub to another does cause changes in the needles.

As a matter of course I use 2C fuel all the time in my 4Cs. I have a Saito 91s, Magnun 91, Magnum 52 and a OS Surpass II 70s. All do well on the fuel of the day.

I have to agree it's something other than oil content because a 4 stroke simply can't load up like a 2 stroke. My guess would be either the tuning or the plug if the fuel is OK.

Who knows what it REALLY is, but I had an OS 1.20 Surpass awhile back that ran like absolute cr_p on 20% oil, 2C fuel. No amount of needle twiddling would get rid of the "congestion".

Going to a lower oil content "4C" fuel made the motor very happy.

I have tried 2 stroke fuel before and just like this time it loaded up . I have spent 3 trips to the field and tried setting the needles with no luck but I have been told by different people that the some 120 OS will do this but smaller OS 4 strokes will work and so will Saito so I guess will just have to wait till I can get some 4 stroke fuel .

I had one OS 120 Surpass that would run on nearly anything I put in the tank (within reason), high or low oil it did not matter. My other OS 120 ran like junk with anything but 14% or 15% oil in the fuel, and no more than 15% nitro. Both were the same series of Surpass. I never figured it out.

I have no idea whether it will solve the problem but I did calculate the answer to the question you asked.

Adding 26 ounces of methanol to a full gallon of fuel that has 18% oil and 15% nitro will give you

72.57% methanol
14.96% oil
12.47% nitro

If you want to maintain the nitro percentage, add 3.9 ounces of nitro and 22.1 ounces of methanol

Depending on what your LHS has to offer...mixing some "tiger blend", etc (low-oil fuel) with a gallon of your regular 2C blend in a 50/50 mix should give you somewhere around 15% oil in the resulting brew.

I wouldn't go too crazy cutting the oil back. You surely wouldn't want to be much below 15% IMO.

Get a gallon of 20/20 fuel from most any manufacturer, and add 43 oz of methanol to it in a larger container, your net result will be extremely close to 15% nitro / 15% oil fuel (within a fraction of a percent).
