I have a revo with standard 2.5 engine and I use modeltecnics big bang fuel, but I recently moved from uk to teneife canary islands and have now found out nitro fuel cannot be sent to me. I have checked everywhere here and only fuel I can find is tifon 10% nitro which is just crap and overheats engine within 2 mins-useless. there are so many great places to bash here and do not want to stop using my trusty revo anyone got any suggetions???????? pleeeeeeeeeease? if not I am moving home.

Status: offline 		If you can't get nitro, then don't use it. It may run with just methanol and oil.

Status: offline 		Take the head shim out and retune it. Do not try squeezing out every last bit of power because it will have less than higher nitro fuel. If the 10% fuel you have run has more oil in it than the car fuel you previously ran, then yes it will run a little hotter.

As long as you tune it so the top end does not sag or fade away on a wide open strech and the off idle mixture performance is crisp and clean, no bogs or hesitations; then you will be fine, it will not be too lean and you will not hurt anything regardless of temp. Crisp and clean but never too lean.

I've seen this mentioned before and I don't understand it. I've never used a car engine but in essence they're no different to a plane engine yet a plane engine runs cooler with more oil. I presume you've done tests on car engines so what's the explanation?

Status: offline 		Well I can tune the enigine to be crisp and clean and engine temps all ok but the power ouput is so low that there is really no point using the car, As soon as I lean a bit more to get performance engine temps rise, The manufacturer states engine needs fuel of 18% oil content regardless of nitro content but obviously the higher the nitro content the lesser lean condition is needed so lower temps. The fuel I have has 10% nito and just say oils on bottle so no idea of oil content.

It does look like I will be looking into mixing a fuel myself as Sport_Pilot mentioned because nitro is not available, but these engines are tetchy even with the right fuel so not sure but worth a try.

I can not be 100% sure why they act this way with high oil fuel, it just does.
If I get out my truck and tune it perfectly to run a 20/20 fuel then richen it 1/8 turn on the mixture for my safety margin, it will have a head temp reading about 45 degrees higher than running 20% nitro / 11% oil car fuel that I make, again perfectly tuned to that fuel.
The higher oil fuel will also provide less top end performance and slightly less snap off the line, but I have no problem running it and it still has more power than the truck needs.

I've taken modern aircraft engines such as teh Enya 50 SS and done the same thing, start with 10% fuel with 20% oil then switch to a 10/11 fuel and the exact thing happens, it gets cooler, with all things remaining the same. Obviously it is tuned to the fuel.
