What about roll or pitch coupling with Rudder?

Status: offline 		Just like every other older design, the Evolution would fly the sequences. If you put good servos in it, it will snap cleaner than if you run cheap servos. Having flown a couple of them with varying quality of motor/equipment, the ones with the better equipment flew better. Not quite as big as today 2m stuff, so the rudder authority wasn't exceptional, but certainly enough for anything up through Masters.

Status: offline 		I have a set of wings and tails.. and I am concocting a fuselage for it... electric only, Haker C50-14XL w/Acro 90 on a 10s.. fairly typical...
I am just wondering if the existing wings and tails (Stabs) are a good foundation to start with...

Depending on your RTF weight, the wings could be down sized a little. When I was flying one, it was very "lite" on it's wings. I had a Plettenberg EVO on it and the difference of 1 click of idle would be the difference in it settling on final and just breezing on by.

Now I realise it is a built up wing (RTF) and may not be worth the work, but you asked for opinions.
ON the other hand, the wings as they are would help carry a 12 #plane with ease.

You also asked about coupling. I never did measure the incidence but I did raise the trailing edge slightly and added some elevator/aileron mix. It's been way too long and I don't remember any numbers accurately ,but I'm rather sure I was under 5 and it flew as straight in Knife edge as I was capable and the pull to the canopy on downlines was gone. I was very happy with it, but I was a 402 class pilot so take it FWIW !! Since you're gonna build a fuse - put wing adjusters on it and you'l'l be happy.

Status: offline 		Funny.. I bought two Sebart Funtana 140s' in 2006 from Sean at Hacker/Aeromodel and at the time... all the Cheena-Arfs were pretty marginal... my FUNTANA was AWESOME! The highest quality ARF I have ever had.. even to this day.... (Though the Main gear plate was designed to pull out with anything less than a Virgin Princess Soft landing!! lol)

I still have one and a friend has the other... both in great shape.. as electrics so they didn't get slimed and shook from a IC motor....

The Evolution and the Giles from Ultra RC look to be from the same designer/factory as the Funtana.. and I have heard of issues with both the URC planes.... there is an extensive build thread on the Funtana 140S at R C G .. and no one really had any issues...

even the covering to this day is in good shape... (I reshrink it every two'n'a'half years if it needs it or not! lol)

Alot of the Evolution wings were produced with the shear webs grain running horizontal to the spars, causing some wings to fold in flight.  If you take an Xacto knife and slit the covering on the bottom of the wing right behind the spar you can add vertical shear webbing to the back side of the spars.

Status: offline 		Well this is a somewhat old thread, I have been wanting a gas powered sport / 2meter pattern plane for a while. I noticed The Evolution on sale at Generalhobby.com for $250.00, much cheaper than any other 2 meter ARF I could find. After reading this thread I'm sure this plane will work for me. I ordered the DLE 35R for power so I'm looking forward to getting this plane in the air. Thanks for all the info everybody.

Status: offline 		I have a E-Evolution that is currently nearing a state of completion with a DLE 35RA in the front. Mostly its a straight forward assembly.
Just waiting on the header and busy modifying the pipe tunnel to accomodate the longer pipe from a Mintor 37.

Status: offline 		Ron, I'd say it's a cheap way to get into it. I don't know how heavy the evolution is; if it's around 11 pounds, the 35 won't have any problem hauling it around. I have mine piped but I don't think a pipe is absolutely required. There is adequate power without it,

The muffler would be loud by pattern standard but if your site can stand it, it wouldn't be a big deal. You might consider soft mounting the engine. Either Merle Hyde or I make mounts for the 35RA. Mine are less expensive and lighter than Merle's.

Timble, I have a build it yourself thread here  http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_6285026/mpage_3/key_/tm.htm. Not that hard to figure out exactly how it is done.

These are presently custom made for each engine since the mounting footprints are all different. The diameter for the 35cc is 4 1/4" but anything from 4" to 4 /34" will work great. Can't really go much smaller because the mounting lugs on the 35 won't allow it. I may need to rethink how to take advantage of only one mount with multiple facings.

Nevertheless, these weigh around 2 1/2 ounces so it isn't a large weight penalty considering the huge benefits over time

Make sure you go through this thread. There is a section where they showed you how to fix a wing webbing issue. I don't know if yours will have the problem or not, but you are better off checking to be sure. They had some problems with wings folding due to the webbing on the spars being incorrectly installed. Better safe than sorry anyway.

The webbing grain is wrong I'm removing the covering (I was looking for a reason to customize the finish LOL ) and will do the fix. , I have read this thread a few times and was was expecting to have to do something about the issues others have seen. noise is not an issue for me so I will use the stock muffler. I flew pattern in the late 60's to 1980 all of my pattern planes are classic pattern types many friends tell me I should try a 2meter so this seems like a good way to di it. I only fly for fun these days so picking up a few ounces to make it more durable is ok for me. Thanks again

Status: offline 		I'm looking for a new canopy for mine, and really don't want to have to fab one from scratch!!  It's had the landing gear replaced with Bolly gear, and that area strengthened, and the wing webbing redone.  It flies beautiful, and is now in need of some TLC and a recover!  Won't put that time in until I find a canopy for it though!  If any one hears of a canopy available for it please let me know!!!

Status: offline 		So what happened to your canopy, I saw someplace where a guy used his plastic canopy as a mold to make a carbon fiber canopy, seems like a good idea to me. What was the model number for the CF landing gear you used?

BTW- on the DLE35RA, when you get your copy take an hour and open the rear up to inspect the reed cage. Mine was sanded too aggressively by the factory into a slight concave shape which didn't permit flush seating of the reeds. I reshaped the cage on a piece of sandpaper laid down on a piece of plate glass. Fuel draw would be affected with even a small leak around the reeds and you'd have a heck of a time starting the engine

After the treatment, choking became very effective; mine literally started on the second flip.....It's field manners are truly simple and easy

Yes I know about that, I received an email from Frank Bowman about it when I rebuilt My DLE 55 it runs great. You get the order for the mount?
