Over the past few weeks I've been reading these posts and I finally decided on the DF36 with the brushless motor and lipo battery. Thinking I was maybe a hair above the rest, I ignored the posts on using the flight sim BEFORE taking my bird up for the first time... NOT A RECOMMENDED PRACTICE FOR BEGINNERS! To make a long story short I'll be learning all about my rotor assembly as I rebuild it after my first 20 seconds of glorious flight.

I already have a cable on the way so I can hook up my Tx to the computer and now I have a couple of questions before I attempt flight #2.

1) Should I replace my rotor head assemble with the normal plastic parts which will break again, or should I upgrade to metal parts? If I upgrade to metal parts, something still has to give in a crash, will I damage more vital parts?

2)I realize this is a subjective question, but which are the best flight sims to learn how to fly the 36?

And last but not least, are there any suggestions for a beginner with a love of helicopters?

Reflex XTR is the best flight sim. It is expensive, but crashing your heli is alot more expensive. I would learn to hover with something like a DF4.

use plastic , you will crash again and agian ...

reflex is ok , but the new realflight g3 has the best physics engine avail , now with the photo backdrops , yada yada ......

hey they are both good , but i got pushed to g3 and im not sad at all.

Hi Zeebadoo.

FMS is fine to learn to hover on... And it's free. I wouldn't recommend buying an expensive sim to learn to hover - when FMS is fine.

Of course, if you want to learn more advanced skills, then a decent sim would be worth the cost.

Getting something like a DF4 is good advice also... They take the knocks with a lot less damage. I still fly mt DF4 more than my CP models.

One point no one mentions is that you have to like fixing/mod these things. I'm learning on a DF#35, and I've used a sim,and I've flown the counter rotational rigs, there not at all like the real thing. Part of the fun is crash repair. The parts are cheep and if you stock up on the parts you break the most , Your back in the air in no time. The rotor head is the most complicated part and once you get it there very simple.
Its waiting for the spare parts that sucks. For your rig I'd get 4 of the little rods that hold the bladed into the rotor head, they bend easy, 4-5 sets of foamey blades. Tail blades and
at least 4 tail booms, about $60.oo in parts, thats how much it cost to learn.
You panic when your learning. stay close to the ground and use trainning gera, they really help. Helis are just like girls... nothing beats the real thing and hopefully, you didn't need a simulator to learn about girls, all the fun and awkwardness of learnning is the best part.

Bonus points to dannoh40 for originality!

Thanks for the advice, I think I'm going to put in a little time with the sim until my replacement parts come in and I have a chance to give it another go.

One more question, I've heard that some of the parts are interchangable with different brand helis. My local shop doesn't carry walkera birds, but they have the align products. Are there any other brands of helis that have interchangable parts for the main rotor/swashplate and linkage setup with my DF36?
