Since i'm still waiting to make full mock up for the new flap system, i wanted to do more on the project, so i decided to do some channeling on the tail plane.

I also made servo hatch pockets in the fins to secure servos with hatches into them. This was very long but easy process and i really enjoyed doing it and thankfully everything has worked out ok so far.
Hatches i'm using are white plastic self contained units, these are mostly used by guys on there jets. When i saw them i really liked the idea of cleanliness and easiness.

I did all 3 fins completely but horizontal stabilizer is still in process of being worked at, hopefully i will finish it channeling tonight.

I did come up with one issue, these hatches are flat plastic ones, now how can i curve them to match the contour of the outer outer skin of fins and stab as both have airfoil shape to them without distorting the plastic hatch itself.

You can also see the curved LE of both elevators, i used plainer and bit of light sanding to do these.

Status: offline 		More updates on H Stabilizer's channeling.

It was hard to decide where to route the channels on horizontal stabilizer, but i managed to find the best route i could with the reference to outer fins and servo hatch placements.

It took me few hours to do this but end result is satisfactory at this time. I also made large channel in the center of the stabilizer for the wires to enter from center of LE into stabilizer to go in the middle before routing to both outer fins and servo pockets for elevators.

I am currently planning to install 1/2" tube piece on the exit ports on top of stabilizer where wires would run into all 3 fins.

Once this process of opening channel was completed i went on to plain all 5 rudders to make LE on them, i had to use extra care on the 3 upper rudders as they taper and blend into tip at the top of the rudders.

I'm posting some pictures of this stage, let me know what you guys think.

Status: offline 		I started with making landing frames for the hatches in the fins and stabilizer, so far i have completed one fin and it looks pretty good. I had to cut a strip from 1/16th sheet into 4 small lengths of 2" L x 3/8" H and then glue them on all 4 side walls in the servo pocket.

3'8"H left and 1/16" of a lip from the contour of the fin. Once alaphatic glue dried, i test fitted hatch in the pocket and it's nice and snug fit!. All i have to do is either heat the hatch a bit to form the curve or just leave it this way as screws will push the hatch into flushed shape of the fin with support of landing frame its resting on.

I as trying to figure out the steering on the nose gear. Does the servo stay perp. to the strut or is there some magic going on there? LOL

Nice to see ya here too. Well steering part is a magic at this point, i will let you know how its built once i have gear assembly in my hands. This is my builder friend's domain on this project to rig it up. [)]

Status: offline 		Ok guys i regards to hatch curving idea's i had asked for in post # 302, well here is what i did after few guys on other forum suggested there ideas to go about this subject.

I didn't used hot water or heat gun to soften up the hatch, instead i used Monokote sealing iron on it, this allowed to heat the hatch just enough to mildly soften itself and then easily formed the new shape on the landing frame.

This was done on the fin itself, it didn't harmed the shape of the fin either and flushed with fin's outer surface easily.

(Use extra care on the heat settings of Monokote iron, if exceeded on high heat near foam for long time, it will start distorting foam under fiberglass skin!)

I am very happy with this way and will be doing other hatches on other fins similarly. Take a look at the pictures to see it yourself and i hope others can use this technique on their projects too.

Status: offline 		I am pretty sure in past i had mentioned that i forgot to add hard points for control horns while building the rudders and elevators, well now i'm also catching up on these missed guys. I used hard balsa blocks cut to size for these.
Also adding another picture to show hatch with its new reformed shape. See the picture below.

Not much as i was finishing off a buddies plane for him last night that took most of my time from the build.

All three fins are now equipped with self contained servo hatches on them. I will do horizontal stabilizer today and post its progress later. If anyone want these hatches they could purchase them from Peter/EICAS at www.Altacare.com these are great time savers!, Thanks Peter for them.

Status: offline 		Robart 90° 1/2" strut bulkhead mount retracks have a horn on them, but sense they fold back the horn is blocked from view by the mounting flange. If you could get a servo plate some how mounted to the strut then the linkage would be simple. Right now it's magic! LOL

Hmm, Hmmmm...Well Well, from what i was briefly mentioned that this retract servo could be moved into the fuselage also and honestly if thats possible to do, i will be relocating it out of gear bay.

I don't want to have servo in the gear bay at all as it henders the scale aspect of the project significantly, but like i said, it's still a magic at this time...he he!.
