I got to see a real Lancaster at the Oshgosh air show a couple years ago. They flew it many times during the 3 days we were there. There also was a Spitfire and a Hurricane there but I don't remember the variants.

It must have been one from WPHM in Hamilton, Ontario. Spitfire and Hurricane are also Ontario resident aircrafts.

Last night i received email from my friend builder who did nose gear assembly for my model that i will be in mail as of today!, i am very excited to receive it in next few days now.

My cowl plug is almost ready for molding, just have to do few last bits on it in order to proceed with molding process.

Plug sectioned...

Last night after i was done with most of the water sanding on the plug, i sectioned off the rear part of the cowl that is attached to the nacelle on real aircrafts, i call it "Nacelle Dome" .

I was cautious as not to make wrong insertions on the plug as i was cutting it, Good news is, all cuts were pretty good. Once nacelle dome was separate i fixed the shapes of all exhaust outlets, i had to fill one on right top as most of the S Connies didn't had exhaust nozzle at that location. After this i took my flat file and filed the edges of the flap doors smooth, soon i will add lit balsa or plastic fillets to correct the shape of the doors as presently they are less in chord area.

I am thinking to keep flat bases of all exhaust ports as if builder doesn't want to get scale mufflers, they can always use dummy nozzles and make there own exhaust outlets from mufflers of there choice. As for my model, currently i'm designing custom mufflers that will fit inside of the cowls and only exhaust nozzles will be visible through port openings..

I think your idea of keeping the base of the exhaust port on the cowling is a good one. Like you said someone might go electric and need to dummy them up!

Well in all honesty, i wasn't thinking about electric route on this model but yeah if builder wants to do his electric then base for making dummy exhaust nozzles will be helpful.

I posted another thread about fueling system type for my model, specially on IBs engines, thought post its link here to so more ideas or opinions could be shared.

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_7674372/tm.htm

Still working on cowl plug, couldn't get much done in last few days but will try today to get it to primer stage.

I have a weird feeling that i might have to make my own custom fuel tanks for IB engines that will fit in the wing's structure, either between fuselage and IB nacelles or IB and OB nacelles!...

Another friend Cobi who is currently building DS 1/9th scale B-24 showed me how Follower tank system works, this system is virtually same as header tank system on RC helicopters.

I will be placing this system on both IB engines with 2oz header tank placed in the IB nacelles connected with fueling dot for refueling.

Hopefully it will work well as it sounds...

Thanks Cobi..

Another major Milestone achieved today....[/size]

My 4 NIB Super Tiger G40 engines and test bed Lancaster Bomber came in today, plus i got 4 static display props with scale spinners, new vac-formed clear parts, engine mounts and flying scale spinners as part of this deal.

After bringing bomber home, i did brief inspection of the model, it seems to be old model but airframe is in good shape compare to its age. It does need some work but it's very good base to start with. Main LGs are sort of fixed type but could be used yet there are no struts on the gears, hence this must be done to keep model as display piece yet it has flown in its past carrier.

I will post it's pictures soon, maybe as early as tomorrow. As i mentioned before this model will be used as test bed aircraft for all engines, electronics and LGs that will be transfered on S Connie my system tests are done.

Happy 4th of July to all my American friends on here, i wish you happy 4th of July once again, hope this weekend is great for all you my friends down south...

Yet another milestone came in mail yesterday.[/b]

I recieved my nose gear assembly from my builder friend, upon opening the box, i was thrilled and when i lfted it out of the box, man it didn't weight much atall!!, all work was done according to my specs and boy what a awesome piece of machine work this gear is.

I took sometime to figure out how it operated and now i am getting comfortable with it's operation. Once i had it, my adralin started to kick in and i went on with it to my building room where S Connie is, started to fiddle with installing it in the nose gear bay, well as i thought, i had to trim down the former where rails would have been glued on, once this was done, i had to take out some foam from under the tri angular bay door opening and then whole assembly just slided into the bay nicely. Gear had to be folded to do this as there was no way i could have slided this assembly unfolded in the bay.

I still have to open up sides of the gear bay by 1/4" on both sides and then make and install aircraft grade ply side walls there and drill holes in the sides of frame to screw it into he side ply walls. Original former is now providing base support for the assembly.

Once this was installed, it took like 2-3 hrs to do this but afterwards i just had to assemble the model once again to see it under the weight of the plane. I am happy to say it all went very well. Suspension is pretty good, not too hard nor to soft, just right amount of spring tention. Fully extended length of strut is 1/4" longer then should have been but i can extend the bay further back at this time.

So far it's looking beautiful on the model, WOW!!!

Cheers...

Engine box?

I would like to know what will be the baset way to construct these engine mounting boxes for my model. The why reason i ask this is due to the cowls i'm in process of making now days.

Since dome part of cowls will have its outer face panel 1-1/4" approx ahead of firewalls, i will have to mount engine mounts on this face point. I will be using new Super Tiger G 40s with either GP adjustable mounts or Dave Brown fixed position mounts on this model.

Would it be good to built these boxes up with 1/4" ply with triangular stocks as supports to hold sides together from inside of the box or should it be good to make these as one piece out of hardwood and drill holes to mount engine mounts on them to secure these to firewalls.

I assume they will mount to the round disk I see in some of your Cowling developement photos. I would thing you could make a barrel type mount of 1/4" A/C ply and I could draw you up a drawing if I knew the dia., how long it will be and engine to be used!
