Hi Sammy,

Yes, the Connies have landing lights under the wings. They are retractable for using.

I do not have expirience with models which have more than one gaz engine. That's one of the reasons why I choosed electric. Further on some places in Switzerland you are not allowed to fly with gaz engines on Sundeys. Also it's much cleaner and easier to handle with electrical power than with gaz engines.

At the moment I have four options for a gear:

- Pneumatical (http://www.wabofahrwerke.de/, only german). I received the offer for this one yesterday evening
- Electrical (http://www.modellbau-kuhlmann.de/). Offer outstanding
- Hydraulical (http://www.eurokit.de/). Prizes on website
- Selfmade-electrical from my collegue

Which gear I choose depends on the weight and the price of the gears. Unfortunately I do not trust into the gear from my collegue. But maybe it's better than expected. I guess it would be the cheapest solution. For me it is important, that the angles of the gear and the lengths of the struts are scale. The rest can be done by hand. Further I'm thinking about brakes.

If you wish I keep you updated regarding my decision of the gear. I hope to get all offers this week and would like to take the decision within the next two weeks. Two long-time model-airplaners are supporting me by the decision

At the moment I'm sheeting the bottom of the fuselage. This should be finished until the end of the week. Then I'll start building the wings. The top of the fuselage will be sheeted when all wiring is placed.

Best wishes,

Richie

Hi everyone,

Here are some more pictures of my project:

BTW: After a lot of discussions with my collegues I changed my opinion about the engines. My Connie will have four Magnum 25. One of my collegues already built very nice cowlings and will also build the whole powerplant. He tries to build an exhaust that has the outlets at the original positions

Best wishes,

Richie

Hi Richie,

Good to see you are progressing of your bird, mine is still in storage and would take sometime before i pull is out again, i am glad you chosed glow as your power plant or propultion systems. What will be be the dry weight of your model as in RTF configuration?, Sounds like you have guys really into scale stuff as making scale cowls and scale exhaust systems, pls share pictures of these items as you go along.
What have you decided on terms of flowler flap mechanisum, that will be tricky area to develop!....

Hi Sammy,

As possibly mentioned a little earlier the dry weight of the electro Connie was about 6.5kg without retractable gear, paint and flaps. Therefore I hope to get the model somwhere below 9kg. The gear should be able to manage 12-14kg. For the moment it seems that I will take a pneumatic gear from WABO. But an offer for an electric gear is still outstanding, I await it for the next week.

Sometimes within October or November I should get the first runable powerplant from my german collegue. As soo as I get it I'll take some pictures for you. The same guy is curently thinking about the fowler-flap system. He had some ideas and wants to test them If the fowler-flap system cannot be realized with this Connie I'll use a regular flap which will not be a fowler-flap. Of course I keep you updated

Currently we (my girlfriend and I) build the left wing and the rudders. As soon as I have some pictures of the progress I'll post them here.

Best wishes,

Richie

@Sammy: Look here: http://www.warbirdforum.de/forum/thread.php?threadid=5787&sid=1ddf36374154011c171be58c77709173&hilight=fowler There is a drawing of a possible fowler flap mechanism. Unfortunately in German, but I guess you should understand how it works

Hi Richie,

I tried it few times but simply can't get to your linked site, well just to let everybody watching this thread know that i have restarted to work on my Connie once again in new home, i have cut out small rectangle foam blocks from the points where the wing is going to get bolted to the fuselage, i will be making hard wood blocks as mounts for wing to bolt into the fuselage and epoxy them in.

Hi Sammy,

If you wish I can send you the flap drawing by mail. I've forgotten that you have to be subscribed to see the forum

The website www.wegier.ch is mine The Connies you see there are built from Willy Kling. He built app. 12 of the (the first one in the 80s). The model has a wing span of 3850mm and is completely built with composite. Mr Kling built Super Connies (G version) and Starliners. The models on the picture are from Alexander Obolonsky (I was in contact with him as I earlier wantet to purchase such a model), Uli Richter and Wolfgang Renno. As I know, Alexander was anytime also german scale champion with his model. Some more pictures you can find here: http://www.fscw.de/seite24c07.html

Best wishes,

Richie

Hi Richie,

While i was typing my last post i was thinking that if posted above link was from your site somehow!, well its good that its your site and i am very happy to see more S Connie models in resonable scale. Since i can't read German can you give me some specs on those models as they seems to almost same scale and size as our ones..
Otherthing i noticed that they all have tip tanks as "G" models but still have short redomes as "C" models of L1049!....why is that any ideas unless i am missing difference between "C,D,E and F" L1049s!, i know all "Gs and Hs" had long radar noses and some "H" models had tip tanks and some diden't....

Willy Kling does he still do Connie comp kits anymore?, i would be interested to know....

Cheers,
Sammy

Hi Sammy,

Unfortunately I deleted the mails with the tech. specs. But what I know is that the wingspan is 3850mm and the engines are OS 4-Stroke 11ccm. The models are no more available as Willy Kling stopped building them (he's in retirement). But I try to ge more information about the models.

Something about the "G" models. Not all of them had the radar nose. It depended on what the customer ordered. Lufthansa ordered their G's without radar. Also Air France had ones without radar.

Cheers,

Richi

Hi Richie,

Can you post specs in inches or feet then milimeters, its easy that way then to convert it all the time...

As for L1049 models, not this was news to me, i was certain that all "G" were top notch in L1049 series and would have everything offered on them, interesting that few airlines still ordered super G connies w/o rades on them.....

Cheers..
