Started out by wet sanding the 3 cowls, each took 2-3hrs roughly but i made first one different then other 2, difference is, 1st one give you a feel of factory's off the line brand spanking new aircraft and other 2 are sort worked up weathered type texture to them. I left 4th one just by cleaning the flash n making exhaust port cut outs nicer. This way they can see what's involved in making these cowls.

Cowls took most of the time, then sprayed dark green on the sheet of vinyl alphabets for the fuselage titles as "Pakistan International"

Since i couldn't go out to buy flat black vinyl sheet to make the pax windows, i sprayed white stick on monocote sheet with flat black but first i scuffed it with 400 paper and took it's sheen off, this helped in pain sticking better to the sheet.
Windows will be done tonite and may get applied on the model also.

I didn't liked the way dark green stripe got painted and did a test to see if masking tape will pull the green off the white, n yes it did, so sprayed whole strips and both outer fins with clear coat paint, i sprayed few coats on each, this sealed the green on the white and gave is beautiful even glossy surface and even out the color properly...I did this as tomorrow i will mask the stripe to paint the belly, stabilizer and stab/fuselage fairings metallic aluminium as wing was done.

One rudder is painted green and it;s functional trim tab.

Also made Pakistani flag as decal since masking tape pulled the edge off the painted one, if anyone wants to know how i did, juss ask, its process n half itself....

Made 60's style of PIA insignia decals for both outer fins from white stick on sheet, stars are next to do, each fin has 7 stars over PIA logo and 10 under it plus a line goes across the PIA with half airplane painted at one end.....

I'm taking bit of break now as i can't sleep and have to get this airplane as much done as possible tonite

Yup, still some more to do on it plus to fix the right side's green stripe disaster and add windows, fuselage titles and regi....

OK folks back on the build, this time i'm working on the landing gears bays in both inboard nacelles, fixed the gaps between spines and then outer skins and now aligning the rails by adding shims for perfectly right angles. I didn't liked the way mains are mounted as then are too much forward tilted, this will also add huge amount of vertical load and stress on locks of the retracts on ground and at the time of touch downs on landings. Don't want any failures on this bird....

Now it's looking right.....Its all dry fitted at this time, all reinforcement pieces are made for it. Once all these pieces are epoxied in place, i will then double reinforce whole gear bays with carbon fibre cloth to give it ultimate robustness....

Here is a short video of Lufthansa who is presently restoring a Lockheed L1649 "Starliner" dubbed as "Super Star" by Lufthansa back to a flying machine.

http://www.3sat.de/mediathek/?displa...play&obj=32329

They bought 3 Starliners in bankrupt auction in 2008 from Morrise Rodney in Aubern Main. Out of 3, this aircraft has bee selected and has been stripped down to bare bones before full ground up restoration started on it, including fabrication of main structural parts that needed to be replaced. Lufthansa is restoring this Starliner back to flying condition so it could be flown to Germany and then she will fly there in German airshow circuit....this will be the only "Starliner" to fly again as only 44 were originally built and these 3 survives to this day.

Forward nose gear hinges and doors..

I'm trying to work out this issue with 2 forward nose gear doors, both are hinged at the middle with each other and 2nd door is permanently mounted on the main strut leg, 1st door slides in and out with 2nd door as gear opens and retracts. My problem is that to this day I haven't been able to find a drawing or a way how to make 1st door workable?, when landing gears is opened, this door slides flat under the belly of forward fuselage and stays parallel to the fuselage's skin, when gear closes, this slides back with 2nd door and closes the gear bay by flushing with the body's curves.

How can i do hinge these together and then have 1st door operate as in scale fashion.....

Here I'm illustrating by using actual nose gear doors that i make long time ago, i made 3 tape hinges on both forward nose gear doors how they 2nd door is secured on the gear leg and 1st door is hinged and slides in n out hinged together with 2nd door.

Nobody can figure out how the first door can be supported so it slides out and stays parallel to the fuselage's belly in gear down position?

Hi Sam,

Nice job you are doing on the Connie.

Here is some food for thought for the front gear door.

Hi George,

I like ur idea but it will not work due to the main mounting aluminium frames are on both edges of the gear door opening and then strut is mounted with in the centre of the frame. Take a look at these pictures.

Another method is needed here, a method with some sort of locking hinges

or a thin piano wire to hold is in place while it opens and closes

or some sort of rail with roller system.

Sam,

You have to make a, to scale, side view mockup of the nose gear and doors so that you can see exactly what is going on when the nose gear retracts. Get the strut angle and pivot point correct.
This is what I did with the Tu-95 gear. If you do something similar it will help you position linkages for the nose doors.

George,

I like how you did urs based on drawings and mock up while taking sequence shots as gear articulates fully into the nacelle's body.

I can sure do the same based on initial drawings i have while using my actual nose gear assembly to see what is going on, otherwise making a mock up of the gear's assembly will take forever to do and i want to get this airplane in air before then end of this year...

I'll do this today once i regain enough energy in my body as i didn't sleep at all last night due to my crazy cat meowing it and running and jumping stupidly through out the house!...

Here you go George, sorry for the delay, being weekend, had to do few things aside from the hobby...

Let me know what you think...I took these best I could, if you need any specific close up ones at certain angles of the strut leg then let me know.

Sam,

Maybe this diagram will help you figure out how to attach the gear doors to the strut. The attachment to the strut may have to be a sliding attachment. Lots of trial and error to get it to work plus getting the font door to seat properly.

My suggestion is to fly the plane without the nose gear doors if you want to fly it this year and then spend the winter getting the doors to work.

Your build looks great!!!!!!!!!!!! planing on having it complete by spring? I know you want to do it in TCL colours but why not leaving in the colours tyou have it in at the moment. It looks good. Fly it for the season and make the colour change next winter. get soem air time under your belt and reap the fruit of your build..

Well simply coz this project started at the time when Canada lost CF-TGE and this would be replacement for it gracing Canadian skies in miniature scale plus guys who donated rolls of Aluminium aviation high speed repair tape plus flitemetal are disappointed that I didn't used that on the model and did it up in PIA's livery instead. I just want to full fill my promise that's all but if they change there minds and accept this livery then I'd gladly keep it for couple years and fly it like this....

Taken and it really makes sense as this will take time to properly figure it out George....

That prop gear door is complicated any way you look at it. Get the bird in the air and figure it out later.

Did you sort out the engine starting sequencer?

Hi Sam,

After looking at a few pictures of the front doors it appears that they used a very simple method to do the doors.

It appears that the rear front door is attached to the strut in three places. You will have to retract the nose gear and then attach the rear door to the strut. Lower the gear and see where the front door happens to be in relation to the strut and fuse.
If you are lucky it will be in the right spot and you can go ahead and attach the front door. If it is off position you may have to resize the rear door so that it will be in the correct position then resize the front door.

Hope this helps.

George
