Last night i made 4 wing joint ribs to go in between center and out wing panels, i cut them from SIG's aircraft 1/8"th plywood, while i was cutting these i left then about 1/8" extra all around so once i have attached balsa trailing edges, these would match with them prefectly.

Engine Options once again...

I have realised that my earlier choice of 4 x OS 46FXs will be too heavy weight wise for this model as my wing loading is in mid 40oz/in currently, i think 4 x OS 40s would be good enough or what about 4 strokes in similar to .40sz 2 strokers?, any advice or suggestion?

Brands i know are OS, Saito, RCV, Magnum, what about others, mind you i don't have experiance of using and flying any 4 stroke engines before, this will be my first time with 4 stroke engines.

CONCORDEFAN, Four stroke engines are always a wise choice for multi-engine projects because they tend to be more reliable than the two strokes (arguably). The Magnum .52 or OS .52 4-Strokes would be good choices as opposed to .40 size 2-strokes. If you went with something like the OS .70 4-Strokes, you would have plenty of power and they are very dependable but you may be getting into some weight issues again. Razorback11

Razorback, Magnum or OS 52 sounds preety good choice, plus due to huge tri tails i am sure i will have concern bring tail heavy too, so by moving firewall 1/2" forward and making slighlty longer cowls with 4 stokers i am sure it will compensate for the weigh issue, but will see once its all done.

Last till now i coulden't sleep so i started to to make flaps bays on both wings, so far i only got right bay cut out, i used my favorite Shawarma slicing methord to make this bay , i will do left one tonight or towwarow....I will post picture soon.

Ok i have done some work on the fowler flaps mecahisum with few different existing designs of fowler flaps but they work for short travel of slider and then rotate, i need to come up with mechanusim on which slider would travel 3.5" towards the trailing edge and then rotate 70 degress downwards!, one i have designed and others including Robart hinge, C-182's hinge, my design they all let slider only travel 1.5" and the rotate half way!. What are other ways to make fowler flap mechaniusm that would do the job here?, anybody got different ideas!

Tailplane and fuselage,

G Morning, finally got back to building the connie, this morning i made H-Stab saddle by hand cutting the aft fuselage section out, it turned out preety good for free hand cut, needs bit of alingment and filling but on the whole it turned out preety good. Currently tail plane is dry fitted and sitting flushedly on the fuselage. I will add pictures soon.

Good news for all Super Constellation L1049/C-121 Builders.

Now highly detailed CAD plans are available for 1/6th Super Constellation L1049/C-121C.

Basic Model Specs - 1/6 Scale:

- Designed using Lockheed specs form L1049 / C-121C se
- 21 foot span
- 19 foot length
- 2 foot dia fuse at the leading edge.
- 6" nose wheels
- 8" mains -
- basic wood construction, with extensive use of Lite ply keeps the overall weight quite low.
- 10 very large drawing sheets, total about 650 square feet.
Depending on numerous variations such as choice of engine, naturally the builder can increase choices of wood, sized to suit structural integrity.
- balsa skin with 4 - 6 oz fiberglass cloth
- no cowls or canopy are yet available - but they will be soon, as models are currently under constructon
- However, plugs for the cowls and plastic cockpit are easily fabricated by using the styrofoam plug method.

The shipped plans packaged will be around 9-10 pounds in weight.
Can be shipped folded (bit cheaper), or rolled in a tube. Postage is usually a bit more if tubed.

G Morning Richie,

She looks real good now with gears on it, what are the leads going to the tail plane for, seems as somekind of circuit board arrangement.

How are you going to do your hooks up with flight controls, are they going to be all hidden or triditional type (Control horn and linkages type).

I will let you know once i get the DVD in, Thanks.

I am still working on Fowler flap system, its not doing as what i want it to do by moving flaps all the way to trailing edge and rotate them 50 degree, further i have come is 3/4" less then required travel length so far. I will go thought maunal and see if something can be adapted to the model also.

Best regards from cold north
Sammy

Hi Sammy,

The wires are for the tail servos (three for the vertical fins and two for the horizontal stabilizer). Unfortunately I forgot to also place two wirdes for the small LED in the tail. But that's not a big problem

The linkage from the servos to the rudders will be traditional. The reason is that my plane is a little smaller than yours and therefore I do not have much space for the controls (--> not enough space for hidden linkages). Further it's easier to adjust when the controls are traditional

The next things I plan to do is finish the tail and prepare the fuselage for the front cargo door.

Best wishes,

Richi

Hi Richie,

I just noticed that your center fin's rudder hinge line is too far back!, it should be in the center of the middle fin vs outer fins, there hinge lines are further back towards T/E then being in the center of the fins, is there a reason why you did it this way?

Hi Sammy,

No, there's no special reason for that. That's the way my collegue drawed the model.

Cheers,

Richi

Well that could fixed to the scale then, i would do it though, you are not to far yet to fix it though. Cuurently i am fixing the noise gear bay, i cut it to far forward initially and same with the rails.

Btw i got you package yesterday, Thanks its very info
