Look at the twin-sync. Sold thru RC Showcase.
Apart from a glow driver, consider some risk management if you should loose an engine.

Well Mike i am aware of twin-sync system but realistically i want to keep my engines running all the time instead of leaning towards losing them and then going with twin-sync route.

So, , , , , ,what good is a glow driver if an outboard glow plug simply burns out at 50 feet?
Make sure there's a strong servo, and enough travel on those rudders.

Check glow plug every 2-3-4 flights and if seems faulty changing them right away would be the best way to keep all engines running at all the time, it would be a small on going investment that could save thousands spend already on the model itself....

Btw i am not saying anything is wrong with Twin-sync system also, so don't take me wrong here, i just want my engines running all the time..

Sammy,
How is the Connie coming? Any progress of late, I know it is flying not building season but I've been following this for awhile and want to see more.

Hey Dave,

Nice to hear from ya mate. Connie is sitting in storage at present, i had very rough summer due to severe health problems relating to last year's accident, i haven't done anything on it for months now but now i do plan to work on it and get it rolling once again. I will be glassing it soon but prior to that i will strip plank all 4 engine nacelles/pods as that have to be done before i glass the wing structure.

Well i seems to be out of loop now days due to health problems, but now i can put them behind me and look to great Connie building future. Since last post lots of work have been done to the model, unfortunately i don't have internet assess at home currently so i have to come to public library to check on stuff, due to this no pictures could be uploaded but i will mention work done so far.

No glassing done as yet but work has been on centre wing section. Firewalls were reinforced, Landing gear rail formers was cut and installed in both inner engine pods, rails were cut and made from sig hard wood fixed gear blocks and installed in the pods. right inner wing recieved leading edges, i used 1"x1/2" stick of medium balsa to make them. All 4 engine pods are currently recieveng strip planking to make outer skin structure of the engine pods!, man this is one slow process, takes too long but results are rewarding!. someone should come up with another method for strip planking the engine pods.

I had to cut 1/4" x 3/32" 4 foot strips from the 3/32"x4" sheet, then i had to cut required length of strips and many of them for different areas of the pods. I am using GP Alaphatic resin (Pro wood glue) for this application. I also had to make fuel tank access hatches in the outer pods, this took some mind bending, unlike other areas!....

So far project is coming along.

Project is countinuing at very good pace now, i was at the Canada's Largest Hobby show couple weeks ago with my model demonstrating guys how to glass the foam sections of the model, i actually ended up glassing almost whole tail plane at the 3 day show and it was excellent. Lots of guys saw what i was doing hands on and asked all sorts of glassing questions, i also learned few things from the guys who have done this sort of job before.

Since the show i have glassed the whole fuselage and it turned out really good!. I used 4 oz and 6 oz cloth cut into wide strips and Aeropoxy epoxy resin for this job. Initally i was thinking of doing it in 5 sections but ended up doing it in 4. Top, both sides and bottom sections.

Last night i started to make rudders out of balsa stocks and sheeting to save the weight in the tail plane, so far i have built left outer top fin's rudder and center fin's rudder, i will be making right top and both bottom outher rudders today.

I am looking to get custom nose gear strut made for the model as there is noting long enough i can find for my application for this scale.

It was a surprise to me that there was a lots of interest in people, few guys wanted to buy this airframe from me but i refused them, i want to finish this one off and fly it. Once all the bugs are taken out and it performed up to my expectations then i will seriously consider to make short kits for S Connie L1049 in this scale for anyone who wants it.

Hey John,

Nice to see your post on here once again....

I would love to add pictures as i have taken quite few but i doubt that i could add them on through public library PC. I will if i could, i will re look into it. Yesterday we had temp in plus so i took advantage of it and water sanded the whole fuselage out side on my driveway. It's looking sweet now and taken totally different prespective on the model.

Once inside i restarted to work on making rudders!, to my surprise when i dry assembled the tail plane on the table, outer rudders were off in chord lenght!, i made mistake on my measurements and missed it by 3/8" of inch!. No big deal, i just added 3/8" fillet on the L/E part of the rudders, now and they look sweet and perfectly aligned. Then i did same mistake on lower rudder couple days ago and made the whole lower section as rudder vs as lower rudders have fixed section of structure attached to H Stab before rudder starts. Other then these baby errors constuction is coming along pretty good.

Ok its my fault i forgot to bring floppy with pictures to add on here!, not used to using/caring floppies anymore...

As the build progreses elevator foam surface area have been cut to replace with built up ones, so far i have almost completed one of the two elevators, just need final sanding but other one still needs ribs to be added with skinning.

For last 2-3 days i have been working on the centre wing section, all the strip planking is now complete with all four engine pods sanded to prefect round shape. Now all i have to do is start glassing the top of the centre wing section. I am waiting to get wing joiner tube sleeves to be made for both outer wings, once this is done and installed in the wing sections i will then do channeling for the servo wires in all 3 wing sections.

Fuselage is still waiting to get high and low areas filled with silica and resin combo, then i will prime it and may paint the top section white while my brother finishes the art work for TCA stripes to be added later.

I have decided to get Trimjet retracts for my model, these are bit more pricy then Behotec but i feel these are alot sturdier and constructed stronger.

Since i want to do metal replication on this model either by using flight metal aluminum foil or something similar, i will try and practice to use aluminum duct tape on my B-25 and see how it goes, if it resulted to my liking then i will use it on this project also. If anyone can give me tips on using duct tape this would be appreciated.

Here are images from last month's hobby show where i did demonstration on how to apply fiberglass on the foam structure. I used Aeropoxy resin for this type of glassing. You can see parts being worked at in the back ground on the table. These are large 1MB images. I will be posting more images of current stage shortly.
