I am considering a conversion on this model. How are the tracks and gearboxes?
Weak or OK with some care taken while driving?

I can handle the scratch building work but want to be sure the driveline would be up to the task. I plan on using a dual ESC setup and my own electronics for the most part. Will the metal HL boxes fit in with some effort? Aftermarket tracks available? Any info you have will be much appreciated. After building the 1117, Im hooked. Just dont want to drop the cash for Tamiya right now.

Contact Ethan at DAK - Desert Armor Korps - He is wrapping a T34/76 conversion. He not only is updating to a Tamiya Battle system, but took backdated the entire upper tank to a T34/76 by combining the WSN kit with a static kit. Read through and he does talk about the gearboxes. An e-mail should clear up any other question you have.

Myself and another member in our tank group have done the conversion using the stock gears that came with the tank. With some reasonable driving around a battlefield that is inside (no rocks, dirt, etc.) and you should be fine. I have about 3 meetings on my T34 with about 5 or 6 battles per meeting and it still hasn't let me down. Use some 280 motors replacing the stock units and the tank is a blast!

Of course, don't expect the durability of a Tamiya gearbox.

The plastic tracks are great. They hold up very well and are plenty strong.

I have a T34 that is now converted to use Pershing Gearboxes BUT before that I used the 280 with standard gearboxes... the problem was striping the final drive gears... they did not last long at all (less then 5 min in one case) . ... I would not mind trying those metal gears in one to see how they hold up. could make converting the T34 to Full Option MUCH MUCH less expensive and less time consuming. Those tracks look awesome

Regards,
J

Will the HL gearboxes fit in the T34 with minor mods or are they just too big?

Anyone tried the metal HL gearbox in the 34? I have seen the Pershing box squeezed in there which I believe is the same as the Tam. tiger. If the HL is a direct copy of that, maybe the Hl gearbox will fit. Anyone follow that?
