ED,
No problem on the gear info.
The plane is fairly easy to put together if you take your time.
One important thing is to also make sure you use a good high power servo on all your controls.
I have found that the HS70MG and the HS-645MG work well on the plane, not to mention they both come with the larger servo arms witch saves you the trouble of buying them separately.

If I can find all the parts I am planning to use an OS BGX-1 on one of the lift masters. It is way overkill but I do have a throttle on the transmitter.
Now back to work I go..
cheers

Steve

Here are a few more picts of the tricycle version of the lift master with the big 41cc gas engine. I finally got my OSD unit programmed last night so I hope to try it out this Sunday at the field. With building this plane as a tricycle gear it is going to give me plenty of room for the camera head in the rear of the plane.
I am going to use a modified rc switch to go from camera 1 to camera 2. This is the best way to avoid disorientation when flying beyond visual sight. In addition since most of people on this forum are after that grate video/pict, I am going to install a video black box of sort.
I found a stick computer that has an FD card slot. I have modified it to record video at a fairly reasonable resolution. I need to work out the power feed (7.2 volts DC) and it will be ready to be strapped in for the ride. This will give me the best possible video recording or as can be achieved. I will still have the air to ground feed to fly the plane. Looking at recording it also so I can compare quality and look for dropouts.

In the next few post I am going to go over how to build the recorder as the cost looks quite reasonable at less than 100.00 us.
All for now
Cheers

Steve,
You may be interested in reading my post on RC Universe "all forums>>rc airplanes>>arf or rtf>>Cedar Hobbies 100" Lift Meister". It is my experience in building and test flying the 105" version of the Lift Meister. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading your experiences with the 100" version. Wish I had your expertise!!! Jim

Steve,

How did you connect your tail wheel and rudder? The tail wheel looks straightforward, but the instructions say to gang the tail wheel and rudder linkages together and I don't see how to do that.

Thanks,

-Ed

I reviewed the thread from the beginning and it looks like Steve used a pull-pull system on the rudder. It's visible in one of the pictures. That answers my question and is probably the way I will go.

Anyone have any ideas for something to hold a video camera to the top of the wing? I would like to attach my Sony HC96. It is pretty small and weighs about 1.2 lbs. I am thinking about some kind of a cradle that I can attach to the wing using velcro. I also plan to put the camera on foam rubber to lessen the vibration.

Jim:
Nice job, looks like a good setup for the jumpers.
How are you releasing them? Are you using a sliding pin or a simple rubber band and servo setup?
Love to see video of it in flight.

I have an old charley skydiver, but I need to find a replacement parasail for it.
One day I plan to set the old boy up with a video transmitter and camera for at least one halo jump.
Regards

Steve

ED:
I used a long wooden rod 3/8” diameter that you can get at most hardware stores.

1. Cut the wood so you have about 3" of space from end to end of the distance between the rudder control arm of the tail wheel and the rudder servo.

2.Then bend a piece of 4/40 rod into a small ' L' drill a hole on the side of the wood at about 1" from the end then set the rod bend into the hole and use ca to hold it in place.

3. take a piece of heat shrink tube and cover this point on the around the wood so that the mount is held fast.

4. Now do the same for the other side of the wood rod.

I used a nylon gear strap as a glide sleeve near the servo.
I have a pict of it below.
Hope this helps

ED:
Use a piece of foam pipe insulation to put around the camera for vibration dampening.
It comes in up to 6” inner ID.
You can then attach a thin piece of aluminum or hard wood to the rear wing bolts to help hold it in place. You may still need a strip of Velcro or two for insurance.
I did this with a coolpix camera on a friend of mines Waco biplane it worked fairly well.

Steve

As weather has been very, ok unbelievably windy here for the past few weekends I have not been able fly the first version or the Tricycle version of the lift master. This past weekend it was only about 20 degs out with 25 to 30 mph winds. I did run some tests on the modified US 41. With the heated carb and tuned muffler and pipe set, I was getting 8,540 RPM’s with a 22 x 6 prop. The engine was run out in the cold at half throttle after a 5 min warm up. Using a 32 ounce fuel tank, run time till empty was just under 2 hours.
I estimate that would give me about 50 miles there and back.
I also ran the servos and the rest of the equipment the entire time.
The battery where still at 75% of full charge. All in all a good verification of the equipment.
Here are some picts of the test along with both planes side by side.

This is what the plane looks like cleaned up ready to go.
Note: that this time the equipment is all mounted on the inside including the GPS.
The cameras are in the same locations as on the tail dragger version.
