That is a very clean installation.

I see you went with a solid mount for your engine, instead of a rubber soft mount. What was your reasoning for that? Is there a performance difference?

No real reason except I always hard mount my petrol engines after some advise from a model shop owner I visited in Portugal who flew big models with 100 & 150cc engines, I thought he must know a thing or two and he advised against soft mounts.
The power from the engine in my Mustang is fantastic and I think due to some extent from the carb bend and trumpet set up and as my Mustang is in excess of 26 pounds in weight that shows how the Zenoahs perform.
One other thing I did to to the cut-out in the lower cowl was to put an aluminium strap cross piece over the cut out to stop any flop, maybe you can just see it in the photo I attached to the previous thread. The cut out started out smaller than in the photo but as I ran the engine to check everything out the cowl started to mould itself to the exhaust as it got hot so I cut bits off as I ran it and so far the cut out shown has proved to be ok.
I have now bought another Slimline Pitts with smoke for my GP Christen Eagle and intend to do the same inlet job on that to cut down on the noise as our club are very noise conscious and the Mustang sounds fantastic and quiet to boot.

I will have to keep an eye on the motor, and maybe I will change it to a solid mount.

How much clearance would you say you have between the cowl and the muffler? and the engine?

What prop are you spinning? I have a Zinger 22 x 8-10 on it currently.
Mine is weighing in at 19 pounds as shown in the picture. I was concerned about the weight, since it is already at the upper end of the recommended weight.
It is nice to know that she will have enough power.

Don't be concerned about the weight.. 19lbs is nothing for this plane! It has PLENTY of lift and wing area. This plane can fly a considerably heavier weight and still have great flight performance.

tbuddingh, I don`t think weight is much of a problem with this model and I have seen posts of them weighing upto 29 pounds and still performing nicely.
I have attached a couple of photo`s showing the engine/silencer/cowl fitted the only change I have made so far is to enlarge the cutout around the cylinder head and plug lead to let the engine run a bit cooler and so far no problems. I am running a Mejlik 22x10 prop but as yet I am not sure what revs that puts out, it was around 6750rpm the first time I ran the engine and will increase I expect as I get more time on it, the silencer knocks around 200 rpm off the top so I am informed but there is still more than enough power to pull the Mustang round with authority

She flys she flys. Thursday I flinally maiden my TF Giant P-51 two clicks of down and three right aileron. Did nothing fancy not even retract the gear. On the touch down was uneventful except after bleeding off some speed and didn't add enough elevator so she nosed over

Hey guys, I have a question when installing the W1A ribs and the wing bolt plate assembly in the wing. the manual states that the center of the wing bolt plate should be placed 1/16" below the center line of the W2 ribs. then in perentheses it says towrds the bottom of the wing. but the detailed illustration in the picture shows it offset towards the top surface of the wing (since it is upside down on the building board). maybe ya'll can clarify that step for me. thanks. i really enjoy this thread by the way

Just wondering where did you get your p51 pilot from. I have been looking for awhile now.

Hi all, I'm looking for information on what spinner would be best for use with the dl50 for this plane. I've seen some examples on this thread of those that are using the dl50 engine, but so far no mention of what spinner. I am going to initially go with a standard two blade prop until after break-in, then move to either a 3 or 4 blade. I'm not really concerned so much with being able to use the same spinner at that time, just want to make sure my engine mount will work with either (shaft length, etc.).

The two I know of right now are:

Dave Brown - Looks good, but unsure what "adapters' to get for the dl50
Zinger - really don't want to have to cut right now for just a 2 blade prop

Any experience with these from those using the dl50 would be appreciated.

Thanks

Hey guys I have a Top Flite 1/5 P-51 with a 3w60, Centry Retracts, some Hitec servos and some Futaba servos, Smoke system, Specktrum Ar7000. She is on the edge of getting in the air and almost ready to fly. All she needs are the batteries and im off. I have about 11 servos in her, I just phurchased a 6v 2600mAh NiMH AA reciever battery and would like to know if this battery is ok for her?

Here are the specs of the battery:

6 V, 2600 mAh powerful battery pack made of high quality matched NiMH 5 x AA cells with Mini Tamiya and BEC connector.
Rapidly charge up and long cycle life, and no memory effect. Double service life.
Cell: High quality 2600mAh AA
Discharge rate: 5amps
Wire: 22ga Rx, 14/16ga on mini Tamiya and BEC connectors
Size: L 2.00" x H 1.6" x W 1.25".
Weight: 5.8oz. (Picture below of the battery 6v 2600 AA NiMH)

I also have a 4.8v AA NIMH 2600 battery for the ignition. Any advice?

I spent a total of 44$ just on these two batteries and I wouldnt like to see them go to waist if I have to turn them down .

Thanks.
Please give me any feedback, suggestion or tips.

You'll be fine on the ignition side. I have the same battery on a Revolution 50 and it doesn't even know it's being used.

On the Receiver servo side-Flying the same plane with 11 servos. Used both 7.4 Lip 2000 MaH reduced to 5.0 Volts and the same Nimh battery you have- I stuck with the Nimh as I don't have to remember 2 different charge types. Diffirence is I use 2 of these batteries as I split the chores between two Futaba 7 channel receivers. Purpose was some redundancy but mostly to split the current draw of 11 Digital servos.

If you add up all the current draw requiremnets at 6.0 volts of your servoes( receiver draw is so small- it doesn't count. ) I think you'll find your still OK with some to spare.
