Hi; in my quest for SPAD materials I went to 3 different, big home improvement stores in my area. I was told the same in all the three: we don't carry the square pipe anymore (they only have aluminum gutter pipe...and I gues it won't work
Again, help! Any shortcut to this? Thanks!

http://www.spadtothebone.com/resources.htm

I am pretty sure I posted the spadtothebone address before for you. If you choose not to do any research yourself don't be suprised if no one else wants to help you. All the spad info is out there just look around for it.

Yes, you posted it (thanks for it) but I already knew the web site. You don't need to be obnoxious about something totally intrascendent.

Build your fuse out of 4mm coro. Its stronger and lighter. I just used the last of my PVC, and I don't plan on getting any more. I have access to it. I'm sold on the coro fuse though. What are you trying to build maybe I can help with the coro design to replace the PVC. I know there is at least one corro fuse design on the home page in the tips and tricks section. If this is your first SPAD, I know you are probably trying to build per plans. You won't regret the coro fuse.

Hi, Kbear. Thanks for your offer of help. I want to build my first spad and I was thinking in the Debonair. Well, in that case I would like to build the Cub or whatever you may help with. Thanks!

The Sutherlands Lumber stores in Oklahoma carry the 2.5 square gutter pipe, maybe one of the stores in Kansas (Sutherlands map) has it too. But that does look like a little ways from Norfolk.

Hey Renoldi, try Mon-do-it Centers in the Midwest. I had good luck on a business trip there, and wound up bringing alot home.

I don't intend any disrespect for all the Spad volunteers, but the resource page on spadtothebone is a little thin when it comes to downspout (not to mention the broken link at the bottom). The statement "PVC gutter pipe is available at most large home improvement stores, and some larger hardware stores" is a little out of date. The truth, I think, is the stuff is getting pretty rare. A lot of us old-spadders stocked up in the early days, but that doesn't help someone new to Spad.

Mike, the Spad home page, I think, is currently unmanaged. The most current info is best found on Spadworld. I think the home page is up mainly for the plans now. It would be nice to see it get an update or two here and there. There is a note that states the above to help new comers that stumble on to the site. I think most of the new Spaders find out about Spad by word of mouth so they here about Spadworld from the start.

Just go to a Do It Best hardware store and ask em to order you some Genova RW200 downspout. I keep a piece with the sticker on it to show em.

Use the search function of the SPAD forum or this forum and look for downspout and you'll come up with this exact information many times. The page IS fairly static, then again, how many times do we need to type in the same information? The Search function and these forums keep themselves up to date. It's beautiful that way.

My point was that it is not useful to send people to the spadtothebone resources page, which, for example, does NOT include the doitbest hint. If the best information is to search forums, we should update the page to say that. Still, the poor response to this thread makes me think square downspout is getting very hard to find.

By the way, are you sure they still sell the stuff at doitbest? It used to be on the doitbest.com web site, and it's not anymore.

Can the spad movement survive without a) easily obtained square downspout and b) an actively managed web site?

You might check with some of the smaller lumberyards around Norfolk. Some times they will have an odd peace or two lying around. The big box stores don’t order specialty items once they remove them from stock. Another idea is to find a seamless gutter installer they are always replacing PVC gutter.

All the gutter pipe I have was salvage. Also you might consider PVC fence components or PVC deck railing and modify your plans a little. That’s part of the fun of SPAD’s. Experimentation

I currently have no plans to by gutter again. It just isn't neccessary to use. Coro fuses are far lighter and srtonger. Now that I've found other materials for control horns, my need for down spout is gone. SPAD will survive without it because A) Spaders are experimenters at heart and B) The free flow of information on Spadworld (thanks Cris). Remember too, that all this is done for free by those involved. We have STTB for the original plans and SW to get the most recent info. I for one am very greatful for the time and effort put in by the team at SW to keep Spad alive. Resistance is futile.

The best way I found was to call Genova and ask them for a source in your area. The big box stores don't carry it. http://www.genovaproducts.com/, ask for a source for Raingo Down Spout.
