Thanks for your comments on the SK 130. I have been trying to get some hands on information without sucess, and I am glad to see it is a good performer.

I am confident it will only get better in the air but until I get my muffler that will have to wait. Amazingly easy to start.

The Canadian distributor is in Acton, On uniquercimports.com

At last I could measure RPM s of my oldest SK 50 today on my good old trainer Excel 2000. Surviving many crashes and bearing change.Only one shim left on head for sealing function.
Temp 91-95 F Humidity high, about 100-200 meters above of sea level.
Fuel Industrial methanol, 20 % full castor, self mix fuel,no nitro. OS A3 plug.Prop 12-5 APC( On your advise both Ed s, thanks Im happy with it) with spinner and DuBro exhaust deflector.
12120 RPM highest. After installing BruLine type air filter it fell 11900 RPM max.
Tach was Hobbico.

Man, that's pretty weak. Even in the middle of summer my TT46Pros will turn a prop that big in the low 13,000s or so and I get around 13,600-13,900 on an APC 12x4.

I thought the SKs performed best on bigger props like this.

At 12,000 RPM Turk's engine with a 12/5 APC is making about 1.1 horsepower according to my calculator, and thats on NO NITRO fuel at 200 METERS and 90 Degrees, thats a density altitude of about 4.000 feet making around 7.5 pounds of thrust. And he's using an exhaust deflector, something well known for not boosting power.

At 13,500 with a 12/4 APC, XJet is making 1.25 hp and around 7.8 pounds of thrust. don't know about altitude (so I used 1,000 feet} or nitro, but 10% will boost RPM in most small engines about 700-1,000 over FAI fuel.

To turn a 12/5 at 13,500 you would need to make almost 1.6 HP, and would generate about 9.5 pounds of thrust {you are now in the thrust numbers of most 70+ size engines}.
In a 50 size engine that would be a very impressive number without a pipe and some high nitro, and even then I would be impressed.

Seems the word is out on the SK line of engines, We sold almost 300 in one month a new record for us.

I've been running my SK 50 quite a bit on my Bridi Vagabond 40. It usually starts first flip, and pulls the Plane around without breaking a sweat. I would guess I have about 30 flights on this Plane, and never a deadstick. The SK 50 has been extremely dependable and trouble free running on Cool Power 15% and an 11x6 apc prop. It seems to pull a heck of alot harder with the 12x5, but a 12x5 just don't have enough clearence on the Vagabond. The carb barrel does seem to stick before it gets to wide open, but it opens to about 95% and that is plenty. I hate to mess with it since it is running so well. Awesome engine in my opinion, and a steal at $59.

Get yourself a wire bender and make up a set of landing gear struts that are about three quarters to one inch longer than the existing struts. Even I can do it. I use a Breiten bender that I bought long ago. You can buy some wire struts with the coils already in them and then tailor them to fit your model with ease. Larger wheels help too.

I had to do the same thing with my Kaos. The Saito 91 didn't have enough prop clearance even with a three bladed prop. I got a K&B bender that I believe I got from Tower along with some new piano wire.

I am pretty happy with my SK 50 swinging a 12x5 around 12,000. The one time the muffler rod broke and I lost half the muffler the engine kept running and I landed without a problem. I would believe the thrust is at least 7 pounds on it. It isn't unlimited on my Ultra Stick 40 but another 25% or so of power would probably put it there so seven pounds or so of thrust sounds about right.

I'm at 380 meters (1135 feet) ASL and I run just 5% nitro with 12% Cooper's Plus C oil and a Tower Muffler.

What I'd really like to see is how well the SK's throttle and transition. I also wonder what the all-up weight is?

If they're as torquey as its' claimed and if they throttle/transition as well as a TT they might make a good 3D engine.

I'm sorely tempted to try one but they just look identical to the Tiger Shark 56 that I bought a few years back. That engine was an utter dog and soured me to that particular style of Chinese engines -- although my other Chinese engines such as ASP/Sanye and GMS seem to work just fine.

All the TT46Pros in our club run that well -- I think the Coopers' oil helps a *lot*.

Here's a video I've posted before, it'll give you an idea of how much difference the "good oil" can make to an otherwise regular sport engine. Note it's turning a 12x4 prop!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gck69lc2HoE

and the high-winged trainer plane in this next video was clocked at over 110mph on the straight and level with another TT46Pro up front.

We're at 1100 feet ASL too.

Spend the $60 plus shipping and put two to three gallons through an SK 50 and if you are not happy with it I am sure someone here would be willing to buy it used as long as you take care of it. It is reliable and has good throttle/transition and I use it for aerobatics/minor 3D in my UltraStick. Mine idles very well. I also own a new TT 46 Pro (bought at the same time) that is in a six pound pattern plane (old Hobbico Spectrum) and I am not getting the type of numbers you mentioned at 425 ft ASL on 15% nitro. It has a tunnel for a tuned pipe that will be my next step. The weight of the SK 50 is 16.6 oz but off hand I can't remember if that included the muffler. I don't think it does. An OS 55AX will probably outperform it slightly but at 2.5 times the cost.

Here is a picture of my SK130 and a Bisson custom Ultimate muffler. Sure sounds nice in the air.
Bisson now has the templates for this engine and can build them as required. Mine was the first one and it fits perfect. Really nice job!!

What size prop are you running on the 1.30?
