Hi,

My friend told me the mixture became lean that when hovering. But horizontally this problem appears the other way round.
He use the 13x8 prop and 5% nitro. Does the size of the prop probably cause this problem?

Other:
My new SK90 arrived. I will put it on the bigger Seagull Harrier 3D but I don't know which prop is better. 15x4W, 15x6 or 16x4W APC?

Does anyone know what the OD/ID of the o-rings on the high speed needle on the SK50? Mine was leaking bad and I pulled the o-rings off and put on some OS brand. They were too thick, DOH! I wanted to order some from Kange but they only sell the complete needle. With shipping it would be around $14. I will do that if I have to, but I thought I would ask.

Hi Playntraffic its so easy to fix such a problem. Remove both o rings then wrap some plumbing tape or similiar (anything) to fill the both grooves some more then reinstall both o rings on them. Now both o rings will have to expand a new OD and this will fix your leakage problem.I always use this method on my o rings.Or another way,try to sand thick o rings smoothly all around with a veryfine sandpaper, I have used that method also.

Thanks Turk. Two very good ideas. I will try the sanding.

I need some help with my SK50. I can not keep it running reliably. I changed out the needle o-rings recently because fuel was leaking out of the needle seat. That has stopped but the engine is hard to tune. I am using a 12x5APC prop and Morgan 15% Omega fuel. The glow plug is new and it is an OS A3. It is mounted upright.

The engine likes to die on takeoff. Full throttle and vertical, the engine dies. It is tuned on the high speed needle with a tach and then tested by holding the plane vertical. It has to be richened about 5 clicks off peak to keep from saging when held vertical. The low speed seems rich, but it will not transition well if I lean it any more. It dies when the throttle is advanced if it is leaned out any more. The engine is hard to stop after a flight which also makes me think that the low speed is rich.

I only have a problem with this engine. My other two strokes, Saitos, and YS engines are fine. I believe that the fix is somewhere that I have not thought of, so I am asking for advise? Anyone have any ideas? Thanks.

Its obvious your low speed needle needs to open slightly.I recommend to open very, very slight steps.I am doing that Low speed adjustments same as like one click on HSN.Its so sensitive. Also you should do the 1/4 throttle test.I mean keep some time on that throttle setting than kick it full.It shouldnt hesitate or stop. That is the better LSN test than from idle. Also on such nitro OS 8 may be better to prevent preignition.

I'll try an OS 8.

I'll richen the low speed needle 1/8 turn richer and then reset the high speed needle. I'll try the 1/4 throttle test and see how it goes. Thanks for the quick response.

One more thing to check is to make sure the fuel line clunk isn't up against the back of the tank.
SK has been real good to my flying buddy when he has needed advice and/or parts so you might give them a call.

Another probability is you might have an air leak in the carb. Try re-seating the carb body into the engine. Also, make sure the barrel closes completely when you kill the engine.

Yes, it might pay to put some red silicone around the bolt that holds the carby on. I've seen them suck air through there and, because it's below the O-ring on the base of the carby, that air goes straight into the crankcase.

However, *my* SK50 is noticeably more sensitive to fuel-head than my TT46Pros.

As Turk said, keep leaning out the low end. I also suspect this engine is not fully broken in. How much fuel have you run through it? Mine did the same thing initially but it eventually settled in and would stop when the throttle was closed. I was able to open the low end more as it continued to break in and ended up with a nice reliable engine. This engine takes a while to break in so keep burning fuel. It is one of the easiest starting engines I own. I am running 15% on an A8 plug. I wouldn't screw with the LS needle until the HS holds a peak RPM. Then you know it is broken in. Lastly, check your box. Mine came with a second needle with o rings attached. Make sure you remove any tabs on the O rings. Mine had them. My TT Pro 46 was much easier to break in but it doesn't swing a 12x5 like the SK.

XJet, a positive SK review? It must be a new year.

What is the recommended prop for SK 130 for 3D flying?
I put this engine on my new Hangar9 ShowTime 4D 90 model.

I put this engine on my new Hangar9 ShowTime 4D 90 model.

Isn't it a bit heavy?

From memory the 130 is a *lot* heavier than the 90.

For what it's worth, I've just come in from a day's flying, during which my SK90 was flawless - best $62 I ever spent on a motor.
