Got to pay to play...

There's some small stuff that you can do but the improvement will be very tiny... it is really up to the motor / ESC combo!

I agree, You will need a better motor for that car. For running at your local park I think a 19T would be all you need. Also, I run the Novak XRS speed control in all my cars that I don't race. Its a great speed control for bashing, it will handle down to a 15T motor and its only around $50 USD.

The "T" is for turns. That is how motors are rated. For example: when I race the "stock" class you have to use a 27T (turn) motor. A 19 turn motor that I suggested for you is a mild modified motor. For a full blown mod 4WD motor you would use a 12 turn or a 10 turn for example. When I said try the Novak XRS it is rated down to a 15 turn, that means that you could run any "turn" motor down to a 15. Simply put, the lower the number of turns, the faster the motor goes.
We won't get into gearing right now. 1 step at a time!

NO. A 10 or 12 turn would be to much for you right now. Get a good 19 or even a 17 turn motor. The Novak XRS is a very good ESC. good luck

I want to convert my DI into a truck.. not a truggy, but rather, a more scale looking Baja style racing truck.. (similar to the Tamiya F-150 kit, BUT, with big travel like a buggy / truggy, yet still retain that scale look!!)

Just another potential project!!

LB did you ever find a good fitting alternate body for this thing?

I bought a Dark Impact and it should be here next week. I was also interested in a truck-SUV body for it.

Too many projects, so this one is being left dead.. it is just sitting around on the side.. ha! So no, I never really found a larger scale truck body to do a scale trophy truck conversion..

Might be easier to do a rally car conversion, as there are some larger size rally car shell around..

The only way to be sure, though, is to buy the shell and check it out.. I just haven't done that yet!
