Well, I like to overkill, so I put the fan there and those LRP fans are pretty strong.. after a couple of runs non-stop on my Lunchbox, the ESC would show no temperature at all!!

I tried it before without the fan, the heatsink is just warm.. never got hot or anything.. (although according to the manual, the BL ESC is supposed to run hotter than brushed ESC) Maybe the Lunchbox is not taxing it as much.. (you can't really go crazy with the Lunchbox, it is not designed to go 35mph and still make the turn, etc.) I assume that I would be much more aggresive with the DI when it comes to throttle and braking.. that's why I left the fan there..

The Sphere is designed to take 7-cells.. so I am not stressing it too much.. as part of the cooling kit, it also comes with a power capacitor, so I got that installed as well.. typically, that also reduce the temperature of the ESC as well...

I got no biased toward/against Novak.. I got Novak products myself, and am very happy with them, but for the BL setup, I went with the Sphere/Neo just from what I read from the magazine.. but you know, they are all really good anyway, there's no clear winner.. both companies are top notch!

Eventually, I'd probably get a Novak BL setup to play with too, just to see what it is like.. (see if there's any differences..)

I got a Mamba Max 7700kv package coming in (no idea when, ask Tower.. LOL!) so that's another technology (sensorless) that I will be trying out..

Well, if you could be so kind as to check clearance w/the sphere minus the fan (if it's not a hassle to temporarily remove the fan) it would be greatly appreciated =) If it's a PITA, a guestimation would be fine ^_~

Sure.. with the way I mount the fan, the fan kind of stuck out a bit.. you can mount the fan lower (I made a CF bracket and screw the fan to the bracket, then use double sided tape to attach to the ESC, so you can probably move the fan up and down quite a bit depends on how you want to mount the fan (or not at all)

But yeah, I am counting on mine will clear even WITH the fan.... (wishful thinking, maybe..) Maybe just let the body push up a little bit.. I don't really care I guess...

Will take a look tonight...

Many thanks =) If it clears w/the fan I will definitely go sphere.

You have a 3 Star, correct?

Nope.. 1-Star!! I wanted a system that is more universal.. (good for both off-road and on-road..) But turned out that this one will probably be dedicated to off-road only.. I will leave the on-road duty for the Mamba Max 7700kv..

hm...13T (which is what they rate the 1 star as) seems "eh" to me...then again, I'm more competition oriented than you are...I'll probably be gunning for either a Novak 7.5 or the 3 Star. For some reason I can't justify the extra $30 to go for a 4 Star from Reedy when I can get all the way down to Novak's 4.5 for the same price (though I wouldn't dare put the 4.5 in the DI...I'm not that nutty).

Looks nice so far. Definitely my favorite Tamiya buggy. I will get one after I finish my XRAY M18MT.

3-Star is probably gonna be pretty fast for off-road vehicle.. (LRP listed it as for touring car.. but no doubt people put them on a buggy...)

1-Star should be plenty for me.. I am an old man!!!!!! :P

4-Star -> you get the Sphere Competition ESC.. that's the reason for the price hike....

Yeah, it is probably one of the more "racy" vehicle from Tamiya's lineup.. hopefully this trend continues!!

Yup.. everything (including the ESC fan!) fit under the cover!!
