I just bought a used starter with an attached gel-cell power pack on Ebay. Unfortunately, it looks like the cell may have been drained fully, and now it won't store enough power to turn the starter.... How do I check if it's the battery, versus the charger or even the starter ??? Any help would be appreciated !

Polaris,

I would start by measuring the voltage of the battery. If it's not around 13 after a full charge, then either the battery is not taking the charge or your charger is not working. If you have good voltage but the starter does not run, then it is the starter.

Kent,
Thanks for the reply.... I will give it a full night's charge, and then check the voltage again..... Should the voltage drop considerably with a load ?

Load does not really matter in this case. We just want to see if the battery is getting charged so we can isolate where the problem is. So the starter does not turn at all or won't turn over an engine?
