Ok, now that there are a few of these being built.... is there any evidence that the plane is (or was) capable of dealing with retracts ?

Would a Master Airscrew prop. work ok on here?

I was thinking McCoy-19 and a 7x5 MA?

Cheers!

Id use the regular muffler...

Is the wing structure/fuselage joint condusive to running an exhaust tube from the muffler out thru the bottom of the plane ?

Hey guys, just a heads up. It appears the CG is stated wrong in the plans. It is closer to 9 inches, not 6.9 as stated. View the other thread on this

Cool thread....

MarkF- 9x6 @ 30K you are the Electric Superman! I seriously hope we get a couple of these at the Revvers next month! One E flight one Glow? (It is worth noting that while Mark F is an electric guy, his stuff is ridiculously fast--- I think his tool box is faster than my Whip)

Mods R Me is building a version of this and he has got SERIOUS GAME! He seems to be building on another level in my opinion...

Super-Dave: You gonna have this Delta-Cat thing ready for next month?

cheers!

I am asking because you guys are the speed plane experts.....

How do you think a Tower .75 will work in this plane?

Any chance the mounting holes will match up?

tower 75 will do fine, you have to drill your own mounting holes thru the riser bocks and the fuse. The wood riser blocks supplied, under the engine are too soft, mine are starting to fail. Tomorrow I will make an Aluminum support after work.

I'm thinking about putting a YS .63FZ supercharged in mine, just to be
different. The plane is only 4' wide, and 5' long. I was going to put a
Tower .75 in it....the FZ will be a lot "cooler"....

A 12-6 pusher prop....maybe even a three blade....let 'er rip !!

Cool Baby !!

My new engine mount works great, No more soft wood giving way! Added 1/8" aluminum plate on the bottom of the fuse to spread the load 6-32 screws to the mount.-40 socket head cap screws hold the JETT 50 to the mount. A new 10x8 APC was installed. Only one short flight. Wing and Rain brought me in early. Winds waere worse today !

It does have the KOOL look. It is not speedy fast.

Retracts would make it look More KOOL and faster.

I blew off some covering. but it left most of the color behind. pictures tomorrrow camera batteries on charge. AND I have business to finish on that auction site.

Thanks for the info looks like a tower .75 for me. I don't need blistering speed per say but my real hope is that it will have good vertical. I just hate a good sport plane that peters out on nice large loops or vertical zoomers.

A Tower 0.75 would work for this plane but you might want to think about a Jett 0.90 FIRE with a counter rotating crank shaft. It's the engine I'm designing the Modkat around and is about the same size/weight as the Tower 0.75. Just depends on how deep your pockets are . I got mine in today via UPS for $475.00 out the door. That includes everything (muffler, remote needle valve, spinner, shipping, and glow plug). I didn't take any pics yet but here's the 3D CAD rendition of it. The Jett 0.90 is truly a beautiful thing .

I started my plane today....from the way it is built, even a Tower .75
(which I was going to use) might me pushing it.

I'm using a new YS .63 FZ supercharged in mine....and granted, I am one
to over-power the Holy Bee-giggers out of most everything. Maybe with
a few serious mods it would hold up, but for how long....I don't know.

Dave,

Can you explain under what aspect you feel a .75 might be pushing it? i.e. too much speed? or too much vibration?
IOW if a feller put the tower .75 and excersized throttle management would it still be too much?

It looks to me that there might be some problems with too much speed,
like there is with most planes if you push them too fast....mainly flutter.
The ailerons are huge, the are built-up, and they are not strong. If they
flutter, it's all over. also, the two booms are held on wiith two small nylon
screws on each side.....the weakest thing I have ever seen in my life.

I will modify this, and "through bolt" the booms on. I will post pictures
when I get a chance. I have to take a close look at the elevator too.

I love the plane though....I am not shooting for speed with this plane.

FBD.
