Well I kinda goofed up my build.

I mistakingly cut out the rudder mounting servo holes in the back of the fuselage instead of the Elevator holes !!!, Its no big deal, I can cover it up, but guess I shd have RTFM !!!
(which reminds me I have to d/l it as my plane did not come with one, came with the 120 edge manual instaed ;-)

Also I am assuming that the incidence on the Extra is also 0-0-0 as in other WH planes. correct?

I would think Tom should be able to email you a manual for it.
0-0-0 is correct, but there is right thrust built in.

Hey Arvind, Glad to know I'm not the only dummy that did that. LOL. I have the correct manual and still did it. Patched mine with red and black Monocote trim sheets. Color almost matched but where its at you dont notice it unless its pointed out to you.

I received the new Extra 300 HD landing gear yesterday from Tom. It is an aluminum gear with the same shape as the original gear. My original gear weighed 10 ozs. and was .155" thick, the HD gear is 12 ozs. and is .1875" thick. Since I broke my wheel pants I won't be putting new ones on. I also got my new Aircraft International CF tailwheel gear (see photo) which weighs in at just 1.5 oz's including the wheel which was from the orginal stock tailwheel gear that weighed 2.5 oz's. The main reason for the change was ease of adjustment and strength, but it also saves an ounce. I'm not in the habit of spending money to save a few ounces but it's a nice bonus. The wheel pants weighed 4 oz's. with hardware and with the ounce from the tailwheel gear the net change in weight will be a plane that's 3 oz's. lighter.

The new CF tailgear that I purchased (See photo above) is a bit wider than necessary and also I believe a bit to stiff. I wanted to make it narrower. The question is, what would be the best way to do this?
A) I have a 4" belt / 6" disk sander
B) Dremal with Cut Off wheel
C) I can take it to work and have it cut with a band saw
Which method would be best? Also should I try to seal the fresh cut/sanded surface with epoxy or CA to seal it?

leave it be or put aside for another plane and buy the smaller tail wheel.

If you deside to cut/sand that down remember CF dust is very bad for your lungs! Id just get the proper size unit.

Unfortunately they don't make a smaller one. This was rated for 25% planes and it has very little flex. Aircraft International says if it flexes it will delaminate. I was thinking if it doesn't flex some it could damage the tail. As it is the wheel would be doing the bulk of the shock absorbing.

Has anyone mounted their fuel tank in the canister tunnel (instead of above it)? I was thinking of doing so which would leave the whole top area open for mounting other stuff

Is there any disadvantage of mounting the tank lower than the wing tube/carb etc?

I have looked through this thread and saw very few mention of rtf weighs. I must admit I didnt read in detail but quickly looked through.

I saw 1 video saying this plane came out at 15.5 pounds with a DA 50 and then another somewhere that said 17 pounds. How many people are sub 16 pounds with this plane and are you stock?

I was all set to buy an AW 260 but for the difference in cost I am thinking this will be a better value if it can weigh 15.5 pounds or lower with cf tube spinner, gear etc. BME also looks nice but hearing some quality issues with the first batch and I am more fimilar with WHs quality.

The one in here that came in at 17 lbs. was with a G62, so take that extra weight into account.

Most RTF weights are coming in around 16.25-16.5 lbs with DA-50.

The density of the wood used on each plane can vary a lot. I would think there can be as much as 4 - 8 ounces difference. Also the amount of adhesives used can also vary. That said mine came in at 16.9 lbs, all stock with a 4800 mah 4 cell li-on 1 super relia-switch on rx 1 switch on ign 2400 mah li-on on ign with 2 volt regs. 4" Dave Brown spinner and a wood 22" prop da 50 with a slimline
