Lithium Ion are different than Lithium Poly
Most flyers use Lithium ION.

I concur with Bobzilla on what most are using.

However, you can use either one to fit the weight and power needs that you may have. The use if Lithium Polymers requires a few extra safety steps and more care in charging, but can be very rewarding to the user in weight savings.

Lithium Ions are easier to use and don't have quite as significant safety hazards involved with their operation.

I finished mounting the motor tonight. I hope I got this mounted correctly for height. There was a + mark on the fire wall and I tried to keep the center of the prop shaft in line with that mark vertically as I had assumed it was the thrust line. I tried to contact Tom but there was no answer. If it's supposed to be higher I can move it up but there isn't much room for stand offs and washers inside the engine box. Here are some photos. Does this look right? I also had to add 3/8" to my 3" standoffs to get the back plate to clear the cowl. Before I realized it was making contact I had screwed the spinner on and that cracked the cowl on the bottom right at the the point where it curves. I think it just cracked the paint but I think I'll sand it down and brush on a coat or two of epoxy than I'll have to try to touch up the black paint. Can I use acrylic paint for this purpose?

The way Tom's planes are set up, when the engine is centered in the cowl ring it would be perfectly positioned with reference to any thrust lines.

Pat , There isn't much of a cowl ring. From the photo can you tell if I need to go up? Should the back plate be even with the very top of the center bump? If so my top two standoffs will be touching the top edge of the engine box.

Looks like you could slide a couple of mm's to the left as facing the pic, but I wouldn't bother. There's enough flexibility in the airframe's performance that a little either way makes no difference. Right thrust is built into every plane which is why the instructions note to use equal sized stand offs on all sides and to drill square with the firewall. The height looks about right. If it was mine I'd have no second thoughts about trying to get it any better and fly it. You could be off 1/4" either way and still be ok. It would look pretty funny that way, though

The photo may not be doing justice to the left/right, that is right on. i was more concerned that it might be low. I don't know for sure if the back plate should be even with the top of the hump in the cowl? If it was supposed to be even the engine box needs to be a tad taller.

Pat,

The height is just fine. Just a tad below the "lip" as it now sits is perfect. I was considering the angle of the camera after I answered that one, and was thinking that it was prolly dead on. I know your style

BadBoy,

I kinda with you on some things. You can really overkill some stuff to get that last 5 grams or so and spend hundreds of bucks and never notice the difference. BTW, I've been meaning to ask, do you have a split personality or are there two of you using the same computer sign in?

is that a 4" spinner or a 3.5 the plane calls for a 4" spinner so if your using a 3.5 the spinner wont/shouldnt line up with the top

It' a 4" spinner. The 3.5" won't cover the bottom of the opening.

Sailing1, go to this link and print out the PDF file there http://www.hitecrcd.com/homepage/nsupport_SFS.htm then send them to this address:

Hitec Customer Service Center
12115 Paine St
Poway CA, 92064
It took about 1 1/2 weeks

texasskydiver, I'm using a slimline (non-smoke) Pitts wrap around, It's a little louder than some others but it makes better power. If you are worried about being to loud the canister set-up is the way to go.
