Good luck Mikey..with first flight. It sound like you got thing checked out well, but I always go over the servo arm screws, servo screws and cowling/canopy bolts after 1st flight..vibration can be a killer!!

Have fun!

Ok I got mine almost done so close I got to get the final weight. It was 4 oz over what I wanted but is an exceptable 16# 12oz. I fear some huge dmg for not reinforcing things from my previous exp with another plane so I added some epoxy here and there and 2 bottles of CA.

Im very happy with the way the plane looks and has come out with weight. I will maiden it Sunday or Monday because there rain forecasted for the next few days.

By the way I found were the batteries need to be with my da50 slim line Pitts muffler. 1 Fromeco 2400 ignition battery beside the tank. And the 4800 fromeco Rx battery right behind the hatch in the turtle deck. I guarantee you I will build another one of these with the bme55 this winter or beginning of next season.

guys becareful with the hitec digital servos. the screws will work out very easy. put some locktight on them , also keep some 2.5mm screws for spares cause no mattter what u do vibration will work them out!!!

mikey

I recommend that you do not use loctite on servo screws. Once they are installed you may never get the screw out again. Red loctite is sertain to do this, blue may or may not work.

Instead buy a package of the 2.5mm (or 2.6 mm, I'm not sure which is correct) allen head screws from microfasteners. These will allow you to tighten the screw properly and still remove it when the time comes. I've never had one of these fail if it was tightened properly.

If you use loctite, expect the screw's head to break off when you try to remove it, requiring that the gears be replaced.

Great advice RCTOM....had that happen..and used a dremmel to cut a slice thru one so a wide blade could get it out.
What about some rubber cement? or someother soft glue?

As I said, if you get the screws good and tight with a ball driver they have never come loose on me, in fact it takes a significant effort to get them loose. I see no need for any thread locker.

Here's pictures of my setup so far. I'm at a stopping point for now, until I receive the servos I ordered from Chief Aircraft.

I used a servo tray from a long-dead airplane to mount the throttle and choke servos (pic 1).
I mounted the ignition module and the ignition battery under the fuel tank tray. Hopefully this doesn't put too much weight in the nose. (pic 2)
I chose screws to mount the canopy, and added trim to the edges for a clean look (pic 3).
Pics 4 and 5 are zoomed out shots of the throttle and choke servos.

Once I receive the elevator servos, I can figure how far back to put the batteries (I'm using 2 1100 NiMH batts from NoBS). If I'm lucky, I may get to maiden flight next weekend.

That screw size is 2.6 x 8mm if your using the metal arms.

I believe JR is 3 x 8mm.

If you absolutely, positively, can't go on without it, and feel that you just have to put something else on the screw, apply a small dab of clear silicone over the top and onto the servo arm. Once it dries you have to peel it off later to get the screw out, but you will get the screw out.

As Tom said, using Locktite on servo screws is a good way to turn a servo into one that can only be used for one particular plane in one particular position. It can take quite a bit of heat applied to a screw to break loose the Locktite, and you may still not get the screw out without damaging the servo.

I use the blue from time to time mself, but you know that somebody, somewhere, will use the red and not be able to get the screw out. I know a guy that did it and he was pretty worried for awhile there.

I have a feeling that we are about to be hearing from another.
