Any progress?
I'd sure hate to see this project get mothballed...

Mothballed? Never. Just taking some time to upgrade my manufacturing process. After the upgrade, I'll have two cnc machines: one for cutting metals and one for cutting wood. The metal cutting machine will be used for making the big wood cutting machine. The metal cutting machine is almost done and I'll be starting on the big wood cutting machine right after. Here's a link to my thread on CNCzone: CNC Thread.

Things will get busy pretty quick once the machines are done. Right now I have two planes that are cnc ready; the Modkat and a turbine trainer (haven't picked a name yet). Still working on a Piaggio P-180 and Beechcraft Starship. All four will be made from composites. Please be patient guys. It hurts me everyday not to be building, but once the upgrade is done it will be well worth it.

Who knows Kelvin may even get involved with a 200+ MPH Ducted Fan design.

You should open it...it's a very good plane.

Good question. I'm still not sure what they need to do . I think it's CAD work, but I'm not sure. They still haven't called me yet.

Not yet. I'm still working on the cnc machine. I've also just moved (again), so that's taking up most of my time. Good new is that I now own a large 3 car garage that will never see a car.....

Update 19 Oct 2009

In case anyone remembers this project, I have completed the first CNC machine (figure 1) and will complete the other "airplane cutter" CNC router by the end of the year (figures 2 & 3). My first project will be finishing the Modkat. I'm making a new waitlist, if anyone still wants a Modkat send me a PM. I'm not sure on pricing yet, but it will be lower than the $300 quote mentioned earlier in the thread.

I really miss being on RCU, but once the router is done I'll be turning out custom composite aircraft in record time.

Kelvin,
Put me on the wait list, I still checked this thread from time to time to make sure I hadn't missed anything! I have a 17lb thrust turbine sitting here that would work great in there! All composite definitely interests me!

LOL! You should talk. This whole thing is your fault.

"Hey Kelvin. Why don't you build a cnc machine? It would make this whole process a lot faster and cheaper"

Sincerely, Thanks guys

Kelvin,
How is this bird coming? I have an AMT Mercury with no home sitting here, I'm anxiously awaiting seeing what happens with this one, trying to hold off on buying something different, any projection on when you'll have molds made and be ready to produce airplanes yet?

It all depends on when the big router is done. I only have 10 parts left to machine before starting on the electronics. It should only take 2-3 weeks to produce the first plane once the machine is done. Hope to start on the plane by early Jan 2010. Not to much longer now considering I started this back in 2007!

And I thought no one cared anymore, thanks guys . All major machining has been accomplished and all that remains is: finishing the enclosure, hooking up the electronics, and installing the spindle. Shouldn't be too long low.
