You can actually use your heat gun to soften epoxy and is actually quite easy to get apart even after it's been together awhile.     Yeah... though he was thinking of installing the fixed gear and later upgrading to the retracts.

    Installing the fixed gear block first, would have made it almost impossible to remove later without breaking open the wings.

    Ugh.

    Status: offline     		Otay, I don't remeber seeing this addressed in the previous 120+ pages (I may have missed it), what position do guys use for fuel tank monting? Did you install directly behind the servo tray, or the next compartment further aft?

    BTW, we hav a silver and Tbirds version that my son and I are working on simultaneously. The T-bird had decent hardware except the pushrods but did not have the anti- rotation rod in the kit nor were the holes drilled. So we added that on. The silver one had the rods all there, but was missing some other hardware, and some of the bolts were stripped already before I opened the pack. Some of the bolts are too long too. So off to Ace Hardware I go in a little while to try to find proper sizes.

    Status: online     		I mounted mine in the indicated position ( the manual shows the fuel tank mounted facing aft with the stopper going towards the hole in the read. ) BUT I turned the tank around so the stopper faces forward. Then I merely ran tubing back towards the engine.

    I also ran the exhaust THROUGH the wing...

    Status: offline     		Have any of you guys had a problem with the engine mounting shelf cracking or breaking off?

    On the example I have (it's had a few bad landings) cracks can be seen where the shelf meets the thicker part of the fuselage.

    Any solutions on fixing it? I'm about to add some aluminium angle on the bottom of the fuselage to try to spread the load forward (turbine powered version) but if anyone else has a neater idea I'd like to know. - John.

    The underlying wood structure is VERY hard. So hard that I had a tough time sanding it.

    Are you sure that what you are seeing is not merely a crack in the fiberglass?

    In any event your solution should work well.

    Put a couple of strips of metal along the bottom with corresponding holes, and retain them with wood screws.

    The hardwood base is about 1/2" thick or more, so allow for that.

    Not sure why there's a question on the fuel tank compartment, it goes all the way to the rear just as the manual shows. You will need to face it forward though (stopper toward the nose), not facing rear like the instructions show. I have not seen the T-Bird scheme as you call it, if this is a new design it's quite possible that they did away with the anti-rotation rod and replaced it with bolts. The anti-rotation rod restricts access to the fuel tank and really isn't necessary if bolts are used instead.

    Status: offline     		Finally test flew my EDF conversion. here is a short video of a pass from the end of the flight with a level entry, no dive. The plane has fixed gear, weighs 7 lbs 10 oz and is powered by a Hoaye 4" fan on 10s 3700's. It will be faster without the gear hanging down.

    The T-bird is the red/white/blue plane. No anti rotation rod in this design however, we have add it in. Thought is to mount the fuel tank (larger 16oz) directly over the CG. There is still plenty of room in there for other stuff. The theory is to keep the balance nuetral whether full tank or empty.

    Whaddaya think?

    Status: offline     		Test flew over the weekend with a .46 engine. Trimmed for level flight at full throttle and at half throttle the sink rate was very high. A large shim at the back of the engine solved most of the problem. Needed almost 3/4" up elivator throw. Will check the wing to stab incidence later. A dead stick indicated the glide slope was reasonable but not overly long. Stalls to the right.

    With the CG at 10.3" the stock fuel tank location is just about dead on it.
