Status: offline 		Hey Dinodog, I really like the 1:12 scale Abrams or "Panzer" or whatever it says on ebay it is. I'm glad to see someone fix one of those up, and its good to know it has potential. How does it run? Did it run decent with the stock electronics, or were they complete junk? Does it have any suspension at all. That tank combined with the Tamiya Hummers is an awesome sight. Makes me want a Tamiya Hummer. . .

Status: offline 		Hi Guys, I believe that all insignia should be historically correct although some discretion being the better part of valour could be shown in public places where people would not expect to see political material of any kind. Scale model conventions and Reenactment shows is where you would and should see them. Tanks for Tankers lol! Hi titan20 the Hailaing is still my favourite model at the moment and I am still pleased that I bought two. One for spares and one for conversion. Think of it as a bodyshell and that should justify the cost. If any Tank was tailor made for conversion then this is it! Oddball scale for Tanks but a perfect match for 1:12 Plan b Toys action Figures and Tamiya 1:12 Hummers which I must add are the mutz nutz! Electronics are the infamous bt500r, similar to Heng Long, it will run OK for a while but don't hold your breath. A Tri Pact Speed control is cheap and will fit across chassis. Suspension needs freezing on the 1st and last two wheels, or upgrading which should be fairly easy oh yes a Track tensioner must be added with basic shims on sprung front axle. Tracks are rubber but stay on really well now mods are in place. 9.6v gives just below scale speed but the Tri Pact Speed Controller can take 14.4v.....Well worth it is all I can say because I have a 1:12 scale Tank with airsoft and space for paintball and camera if I so wish for less than $400 including new Futaba 4 Channel etc etc.

I got it used from a gentleman in NC. He put it together from a kit from www.rcarmory.com

I had to refit it (replace a few things, re-wire, etc) because it was already about 8 yrs old. It's very powerful, heavy, and behaves much like the real thing -- esp going through tall weeds/grass, through creeks, that sort of thing. I'll be able to test it in snow in another week or two.

But, man, it's really fun to mess with. I still need to put a sound module in it, re-work the turret (the original owner engineered a .22 cal blank mechanism with separate servo to shoot).

I might go to 1/6 scale after this one. I'm really stuck with the larger scale now.

Status: offline 		Hi Ian, I think they measure 7 Inches in height which makes them about 1:10 I think. 1:12 scale equates to 1 Inch to 1 Foot so Action Figures need to be 6 inches tall to fit the Hummer. Mcfarlane Figures are a bit too big but pretty close!

Status: offline 		Hi proulxlaw, what a fantastic looking 1:9 Tank! Bigger scale stuff seems to be gaining popularity fast! Plenty of room inside for mods and great looks and performance when in the field! I know I'm biased but I think Tamiya should release more 1:12 stuff to suit the Hummer, but I would say that wouldn't I!

Status: offline 		Hey Dino that 1-12 scale tank will move on on 14.4v's, Ive been running one that way for a while. Got camaras and stuff on it. I put threaded screw, nuts on the front axel for track tension. Also noticed turrent rotation motor gearbox is the same as a henlong, as mine is burned up need to get one. Did you do away with the relay board and wire direct to the motors on the conversion? Mines still on the stock vcc but transfers to 14.4 on the relay board. 9.6 for everthing else. They make good projects.

Status: offline 		Hi Rathead123, great news that someone else has seen the light! First off I got the volts to the Turret motor down to around 5v, I did this by taking a 5v "tap" off my main batt pack. I think it will last a bit longer lol! I also have 5v for radio this way. I was sticking to 9.6v for the drive motors as this is normally the max for a geared 300 type motor but if you are getting good results and a reasonable motor life then I will try 14.4v as well! I tried it at 14.4v for a few short runs and it certainly does fly! Then I lost my nerve and went back to 9.6v! I do have two spare motors! ..... I have included some old pics of when I was working on the Tank, the Tri Pact Speed Controller plans are available at http://www.rctankcombat.com/articles/speed-control/ if you haven't found it already!
I wired mine with 4 sockets and a connector strip but you could cut down on weight and use heat shrink over the directly connected wires to the Auto standard type spdt relays. I used a connector strip to make the diode loop because I had one but a fibre board or direct soldered wires would be lighter. No trouble with standard gearbox yet how is yours bearing up on 14.4v?

Status: offline 		Many, dinodog, you guys are really making me want one of those 1/12 scale Abrams to convert, plus a Tamiya Hummer to go with it! This would probably give me another opportunity to try my new successful Scorpion esc, and Futaba radio combination (or maybe two Scorpions, two batteries, and a 4-channel radio so I could maintain a lot of the "extra" functions).
