I just ordered an Irvine .46 abc Mk-III,
I have never been introduced to these engines.....Can anyone tell me about this mfg?
Is this a good engine?
I just had to have one because I have heard a lot of good things....I don't know where I am going to put it yet....
It is rather pricey.....Hope I did not waste my money.
Just engines was 140.00 shipped.
Thanks,
5x5

Are you sure about that price, about four months ago I got a .53 shipping and all for $101 and some change. As for the engine you'll love it, if you like hard charging smooth engines. If $140.00 is the price they gave you today somebody messed up on their math, I just went to their site and converted it at about $93.50. You should have them redo the numbers.

Are you sure it wasn't 140 pounds, not dollars? I just bought a .53 from them for less than $100 delivered to my front door.
Mine is in a Sig somethin' extra
It's a real strong motor.
Too much motor for the plane
I'd gladly buy another.

Are you all looking at the same pages I am? I see the Irvine MkIII .46 in Just Engines' Monthly Sales page for 63.99 GBP.

63.99 x .851 (deduct EEC tax) = 54.46 GBP

54.46 x 1.42 (GBP to USD conversion) = 77.33 USD

Adding at most $15 for postage on top of that, and you should pay no more than USD 92.00 delivered. Apply the discount and postage savings for buying two or more and the per engine cost would be a little less still.

Now I can buy the OS .46FX for about $100 plus tax at my LHS. Personally, I don't like to pay that much for a 2stroke that size - I'd rather buy a 4stroke for a little more money. But if I were to buy one it'll be an Irvine .53, which is US$10 more than the Irvine .46 quoted above - about the same price as the OS .46FX.

And my LHS has one sitting there for $99 and I can touch it. What's more, I can also walk in and by fuel, props and kits. All the other goodies. I owe it to myself to support him.

Do what you want but if your LHS is gone some day, don't ask why.

Typhoon, I understand where you're coming from, but don't jump to conclusion, buddy. My favorite LHS is Planes & Trains Hobbies on Westheimer in Houston. Ed there gives 5% off magazine ad prices on Radio stuff and 10% off on just about everything else. I just got back to RC this past years and I've spent well over $4000 already, most of which went to LHSs. Heck I even bought several engines from the LHS in Baton Rouge when I went there on business trips just because I enjoy talking to the store owners there.

I seldom pay more at LHS just because somebody gives me the old guilt trip spiel. And I don't have to. Good LHS can beat or at least match mail order prices. Those LHSs that believe they have the right to overcharge me simply don't get my business.

Sometime the LHS just can't get the particular item or product line I'm looking for. For example, Ed doesn't do Sig or Irvine, so I source them elsewhere. And when TowerHobbies has a clearance deal on exactly what I want, I'd be stupid to pass it up just because my LHS has the same thing on the shelf with a 50% higher price. I have a tough enough time convincing my Chief Financial Officer to let me stay in this hobby; she would cut off my funds in an instant if I tell her I pay more just to make the LHS owner fat and happy.

From the tone of your post, I take it you've never bought from any place other than brand new from your LHS. That also precludes buying used or from individuals, without a thorough background check, because heaven forbids they might be the moral-deficient type who buy mail order.

Preaching from a moral highground is fine as long as you never ever plan on coming down from it. Sneak down here once, and you'd be a bona fide hypocrite worst than us heathens who are at least honest about our practices.

OK, OK my butts bleeding from all the chewing. I guess I didn't use enough words.

I give my local guy's every opportunity to come close. If they are "within reason" which is almost always in our case, I buy from him. Actually, the last time I bought mail order was well over a year ago and then to get some light weight stuff called light span from HL.

Maybe you have locals running the HS that are too hard nosed to talk price. We don't and if there is room to play, our guys will realize customers will go somewhere else so they play the game.

Sure I've bought used. Won't do it again though unless at a flea market since I've gotten burned once and that was enough.

I too have a CFO to answer to. She keeps closer tabs on what I spend than I do.

In the case of the Irvine engines, we for some reason have very good pricing on them. $99 for the .46 which with our 6% tax brings it close enough to JE that I'd do it here instead of dealing across the pond. One return wipes out that additional savings.

Peace,
Tony

If you support your LHS, then you support your town as well. Also, it is a good thing to look someone in the eyes.

Elwood,
Could't agree with you more.

Sometime one has to do what they have to do.

I am not on a guilt trip because I bought an engine my LHS did not carry, as a matter of fact...He is the one that told me where to buy..

I doubt there is a handful of people (in this city) that have spent as much as me at my LHS.

I just figured up what reciepts I have for last year (and I think I have misplaced a few)

$5,771.28

$5771 at the LHS would get me divorce papers!

All things within reason. I went to my LHS yesterday to look at a kit from SIG. They had it. The box looked like it was water damaged, and had been there since the Wright Brothers took to the air. In this case, I will go to hobbypeople.net or Tower.

I also don't think I need to support them if they try to rip us off! But I will buy from them most times.
