Yes, rcmiket, this is surely one of the major places supporting the AMA; helping it promote model aviation and all that. Any statistics on how many new members this forum has helped recruit?

I think you are all taking this whole thing far to negativly and off track.

The idea is to have these guys com here and just tell us about themselves, introduce themselves to the District and for that manner the AMA. It would be very easy for a CONTROLED post to run it's course if ground rules where laid in the first post.

I just see it as a missed opertunity for them.

Yes, this post has generated little district involvment, however if these guys where here posting word would get out fast and people would read it. Also people could talk about it at their RC fields and generate more interest.

Right now, there is nothing but speculation and in some cases animosity. I just want to HEAR there story and get to know them. I care allot about this hobby of mine and I like being involved. One of these guys is going to represent me in the AMA.

I for one am GLAD Dr. Frank isn't continuing, and his GLAD Mr. Powell isn't running either. I don't like the way things where done under their rule. I want an opertunity to let each person that is running know what I want to see and what I would like to see change.
As I said, I just want to be an informed voter.

Ma will publish each persons statement or platform. What part of this are you having a problem with? I know you feel like you have some right to "grill" each person but they (and I agree) dont wish to chance a "misunderstanding" ( like most of the stuff on this forum). Just think if one of these guys who just may be the right person for the position got into the usual crap that goes on here , the wrong impression may result. Please just give this some thought. All will be given the same space in MA.

you probably need to make a call to dave m, mike. see how he feels about the way he was treated in here. might be suprising to ya.
mostly the folks here are civil to whoever shows up and honestly states their positions, even those of us, who like me, disagreed with a lot of those positions.

This is not about Dave and what he did. Its about 3 guys running now.Its their call how and when to handle this. Not ours. If you feel like your not getting the info you want don't vote. Nowhere in the AMA bylaws say anything about posting here.

no, it is about you and your belief that "we" will be uncivil to any candidate that trys to post his position in here.

the past does not support that thesis.

The two that I know are not afraid of negative comments and do not show any real signs of megalomania. They also have never expressed any real desire to indulge in remote mud or pig wrestling events.
Based on how well this forum served DM, they may decide that it is best to leave this area open for the pundit patrols and keyboard cowboys that seem to populate this forum.
On the other hand I also do not have a clue as to what their true intentions are. This is my speculation just like the post that I quoted and carries exactly the same weight.

thats only a maby burger.
folks that can't or won't come into some place like this can be simply afraid of the negative reaction they seem to expect to get, they can be slow witted and just not want us to notice it, they can be meglamaniacs like the departing guy from the office that just cant stomach oposing viewpoints at all, or they can be just uninformed about this place's existance, but i would like to point out to em all, that dave m made it a point to post in here and answer our questions durring his run for ama president, and overall, i think we treated him fairly, and i expect no less treatment of any of the various vp candidates.
i definately have a lower respect level for the ones that will not make the effort to show up in a free viewpoint exposal arena.

Not yet, but there is still hope that that at least one has the cajones. Like Hoss said, it's early and the canned statements have yet to be published.

rcmiket, You act like you speak for them. You need to represent your self and not place words in other peoples mouths. If those individuals post here GREAT! If they don't it's a shame.

I just wish there was a place where we could post thoughts and views for our district ONLY. LIKE I SAID, "CLOSE/TIGHT MODERATION" would solve allot of issues that would come up. Make it No Flames, and NO OFF TOPIC posts and it could stay VERY civil.

Just out of couriosity, how many AMA member are in District 8? Anyone know the entire breakdown by state? Heck I would love to see just how many in each City too

My guess, Dallas, Houston have all other areas beat combined.

Ken. I know Guy Barber(one of our club member's) and know of Harville from good freinds. Rice was a local club member here a ways back.(never had the chance to meet him) Some of the guys have had things to say on all. Some pro and some con. I speak for me and me alone. I will not speak from hearsay about any of these guys.Go back and read some of the posts on them not having to guts to come on here. I'm defending there right not to come on here.

rcmiket, is it NOT true that you nominated Guy Barber for consideration by the AMA Nom. Comm. to consider? Sine you are afraid of this group, could it be that Mr. Barber could well handle himself here, and get a head start in the race, if you were not afraid for him, or is it that you really know him well enough to advise him as you so appear to be doing?
Since I don't know Mr. Barber nor do I have any knowledge of his specific works within AMA, about his history in promoting model aviation, and/or where his interests and objectives lie, I now have no choice but to wait until the SHORT, and highly edited article arrives in the mag. MA to determine if I should vote for him.
That is sad because I am a rather well known personality of the area and if he stated good objectives, along with the experience to promote those objectives, then perhaps other interested voters would also have advance ideas that Mr. Barber is the man for the job.

You state that you are defending their RIGHT to NOT post here. You really say more against the questions the individual might be asked and even more against those that might ask those questions. Are you less than confident in Mr. Barber's abilities?

Any individual that cannot face the music here darn well will not be able to face the opposition, when before the SQUARE table in an EC meeting he has to present those objectives while several highly qualified individuals, so well experienced in thinking-on-their-feet to both avoid focus on by the EC and/or circumnavigate those items / questions / issues that they, for some personal reasons, do not wish the EC to either move on or not to move on, are facing him right in the eye. BTDT!
In other words, these EC members go to a meeting to say "yea'', Uh-Huh, "good idea", then vote yes or no depending on the wind direction, then wear the fancy shirt while smiling and kissing the babies at some of the large clubs' facilities.

So far, IMO, it's deja-vie all over.

Edited to add: Any candidate entering this place could preface the thread with the statement, "No issues, questions, or other rhetoric will be addressed if not signed by a name and AMA number that can be verified."
I certainly would not expect anyone hiding behind some screen name to be recognized.

In 2005 District VIII had 15,942 members and 244 clubs which was 9.96% of the clubs in the nation. If you want to see how we stack up against the other districts go to page 158 in the much maligned and often criticized Aug. 2006 Model Aviation.
Back to the original topic, I would be thinking about who I would pitch for my AVP. With a district as large as ours it is unrealistic to expect the VP to ever show up more than once to events that are distant from his area. Good AVPs are the best source to get ideas and comments to the VP. They should have a better handle on their area and be able to help separate the wheat from the chaff so to speak.
Our current VP burned out like a road flare about three years back plus a couple of the AVPs are like parsley on a fish. This time we can do better but it will be by the efforts of those that want change, not what shows up here.
